18. "Rejected"

Nox’s POV

My wicked father was the one who commanded everyone to conceal my face with a mask. There was a time when I revealed my face to my father and inquired why. But what was his response?

"Your face disgusts me, Nox," he uttered.

I wasn't foolish enough to not know which faces were deemed good and which were not. Honestly, I was aware that my face was better than that of the average man. However, my family despised the sight of me, and I grew up being treated like dirt.

Once I discovered the reason behind it all, I made a promise to myself to never let anyone catch a glimpse of my face. But then, my partner entered my life and confessed that her heart skipped a beat just by looking at me.

"Is that your way of saying you love my face?" I questioned my mate.

She gazed at me with surprise, which was evident in her eyes. Then, she burst into laughter. "I can see you have quite a bit of confidence in yourself. Aren't you shy about asking me that?" she replied.
