“Ana, can you come here for a minute?” I hear Dominic’s deep voice say before I see him round the corner to the living room with a big smile on his face.
When I see something in his hand, I get excited before standing up and walking over to him. In his closed fist lies a small pastel blue box. From what I see of it, the box has a white silk ribbon wrapped around it expertly. As I meet him in the middle of the room, I notice two things. The first, that he seems very cheerful today, not usual at all for him. The second, there is a spark in his eyes that has never been there before.
Today, is the Full Moon Event of the Spring. Many of our kind come from all around to party till the moon rises and then they take to the night as they mate all night long. Last time I heard it, I was in the middle of the woods, but I still heard it from miles away. Perhaps some of them got closer than my parents would have preferre
After he leaves the room, I hear his deliberate heavy footsteps stomp down the hall. When I realize that he isn’t coming back, I stop holding my breath and glance down at the ring on my finger. It’s amazing that it fits me perfectly. Was it hers? I wonder before taking a closer look at it. If it was hers, she must have been the same size as I am now. Raising my hand up closer to my face, I inspect it closely in the sunshine. I move over to the window so I can get a better look at the ring, and it starts to shimmer and sparkle when the light hits it. Looking even closer, I examine the rubies and diamonds that are carefully placed into the intricate gold ring. When I look up, I see that it is casting a light show on the wall across the room. I smile and admire it for a little while longer before someone knocks on the door. Scanning the room, I finally uncross my legs and stand up. After s
“Boom” Hearing a loud explosion outside, Dominic immediately pushes me away and runs out the door without saying a word before he leaves. I on the other hand, stand there stunned for a moment before I can snap out of it and realize that he has gone out the door. After the magic wears off, I rush to the window and watch as the events unfold before me. Dominic launches himself headfirst into the fight before he ever sees the two rogues hiding in the bushes around the side of the castle. Just as he turns the corner, they attack, and ram him in his side forcefully. The impact slams him onto the ground and I stand there helplessly watching as he gets pummeled before the security team ever arrives on the scene. When they do, they rush over to him, and I watch the two rogues run off to the woods beyond the luscious rose gardens. Too horrified to move at first, I stare out the window at the billowing smoke and the destruction
“Knock” “Knock” I feel the tension in the air when all of us stare at the door. Exchanging glances with me after a few moments, Alpha Erickson turns his attention to the screen that shows the area in front of the door. Seeing Omega Jonathan, and that he is badly wounded, he rushes to the door and punches in the 4-digit number before it opens. As soon as it does, Erickson steps forward and grabs a hold of him before pulling him in. When he pulls him in, and sits him down on the nearest chair, I look him up and down and realize that he is in shock and must have a head wound, because I see only one other injury and that is to his side. A small wound, but if it isn’t cleaned, it will quickly become infected and earn him a one-way trip to the clinic. After all, we heal fast, but not that fast and somethings we don’t come back from. There is one other thing I find odd. When I was watching the cameras, it seemed that
It has been 10 hours since the fighting has stopped, and Alpha Erickson is still sitting there with his head in his hands and murmuring softly to himself things I can’t hear because he is saying them too low to be audible. Sitting next to Dominic, I rest my hand on his chest so that I can be alerted the minute his breathing stops. It had become labored again about an hour ago and then for a split second it stopped and started again. When it did, my heart almost gave out. Matter of fact, in some weird way, I feel like we are connected by more than what I had originally thought. With every beat of his heart, my love deepens for him, and I just wish that there was someway of bringing him out of this unscathed. I can’t help but to wonder, if I have already sold my soul and my first child, what else do I have to give? As I lay my head gently onto his chest and close my eyes, I feel a slight movement. At first, I think it is just h
After watching the screens for what seems like hours with my eyes glued to them, I sit back relaxing and close them for a few minutes. Feeling like this day can’t possibly get any worse, I reopen my eyes to see that Dominic still is nowhere to be found on any of the screens. It’s just amazing that this has all happened. I just don’t understand why this whole thing happened in the first place. We have been at peace for quite some time before this and now a witch or something else is in our mists. Shaking my head, I begin to stare at the screens again in hopes of seeing a glimpse of Dominic. “Are you alright?” Omega Ned stares at me before asking with concern in his voice. Standing up, he walks over to me and then when he gazes down, he says, “Go take a nap. I have this. This is really a one-man job. Don’t worry, if anything shows up, the alarms will sound. I set them up for that.” He smiles at me as h
“Smash” “Bang” I wake up to hear loud noises all around me. Something crashes just within a few inches of my head before I can open my eyes. When I manage to slowly open them, I can barely see anything, and I feel so weak that I can barely lift my arms. Pushing myself up to a sitting position, I do my best to scan the room, but it is so dark that everything just looks like a shadow. With it being so dark, no wonder why I feel like I am in a dream. What had happened to me before I passed out? I no longer can remember, and I guess it is just as well. Hearing Dominic’s voice strained and demanding somewhere in the darkness, I turn my attention to something sitting next to me on the floor. In a heartbeat I realize what it is and for some reason the vampire is staring at me with his lifeless red eyes. He opens his mouth and then lets out a screech that puts me on edge before saying in a slithering voice, “You
“Crunch” Hearing a noise, I hesitate to open my eyes for fear of what I might find right in front of my face. “Crunch” I hear it again and then force myself to deal with the situation by slowly opening my eyes and confronting them. By now the light has all died out from the candles and lanterns, but there is finally moonlight that is cascading in through the window and I watch as the light dances off the ceiling. As my eyes travel down the wall, they focus on something really small scurrying along the floorboards and then I realize that it is just a tiny mouse with a piece of bread in its mouth, hurrying off to its home in the wall. Squinting, I see his little beady black eyes as he chitters at me with excitement before disappearing into the tiny hole by my bed. “Hm. That’s what I heard?” I murmur under my breath as a chill runs down my spine because it is a little cool for a summer night. After he disappears, I g
Returning home, I start to see the morning sunlight peak over the tree line, as I glance over at Dominic who hasn’t said a word to me since the minute we left. Matter of fact, it was so quiet that I could hear myself think clearly for once and that doesn’t usually ever happen. The only thing that was louder was the constant glares and stares from him when I would slow down, and he wanted to run.I can’t believe that he was just about to take me just a few hours earlier, but then the reality of the situation came crashing down and interrupted it all. Not wanting to anger him worse than he already is, I choose to stay silent until we get back. The minute we step in the door however, I feel relieved and let out a loud sigh before he glances over at me and realizes just how much this has taken out of me.Frowning he states, “If you were so tired and couldn’t keep up, why didn’t you just say so? I would
