Chapter 102

When I’m at the station, I grab my gear from my truck and head inside. I’m so focused on doing what needs to be done so I can go home and call Ivy that I almost don’t see her standing in the corner by her dad. She looks tired and scared and more beautiful than anything I’ve ever seen. When her eyes meet mine, I see relief wash over her. Her body tenses, and I know she’s forcing herself to not run up to me. I give her dad a nod and when he turns away, I motion for her to follow me.

I head toward a small office space that’s rarely used and step inside. A few minutes later, she opens the door. Before the door can even shut, she’s in my arms, wrapping her legs around me as she kisses me. Her hands roam over me as if convincing herself that I’m safe and unharmed. When she pulls back for air, I notice the tears in her eyes.

“Hey, what’s wrong?” I ask, setting her down so I can cup her face in my hands.
