CHAPTER 11

I reach my hand into my other pocket while I attempt to smile at the glum cashier who is staring at me with an unblinking gaze.

Is something wrong? As I frantically search for something that is suddenly gone, the cashier asks with a faint line on his lips.

I lie, "No issue." That's when I remember the man because I'm trying to figure out how to get out of this predicament without making a mess of things.

The wallet was stuffed inside my pocket.

Fact.

I might have been groggy following what happened to Simon, but I was in possession of the wallet on the bus. Before I lost all concept of time, it banged against my leg as I sat down in my seat. But I did.

I no longer do.

It couldn't have slipped out while I was jogging; the pockets are deep enough. I have not allowed anyone to approach me. the only bus driver. And the man who was standing outside the supermarket.
