CHAPTER 17 – Zara’s POV I thought he had decided to choose us instead of Giselle, but it was just my wishful thinking. Later in the evening, Lucas left without telling me where he was going, but I knew it was because of Giselle. I had nothing to say about that. CHAPTER 18-Zara’s POV After we argued about Nick, he just realized that I made some changes about myself, and for some inexplicable reason, I found it difficult to meet his piercing gaze. It seemed as though I had done something wrong. Well, I refused to be constrained by his rules anymore. I would never allow him to bind me with his words and desires anymore. Antoinette was right about him being unjust, selfish, and dictatorial. It turned out that I had been blinded by so many things because of how much I loved him despite it being one-sided. CHAPTER 19- Zara’s POV Together, we stepped outside to welcome Nick into the house. As he dismounted his motorcycle, his gaze landed on Lucas's hand, which was securely placed around my waist. “Come in,” I said to Nick, and I could feel that he felt a bit awkward. “By the way, how are you?” I asked him as we walked towards the house. “I’m okay,” he replied curtly to my question. “That's good then,” I said. When we entered the house, we didn't have any privacy because Lucas kept on watching us. It felt like we were back in ancient times, where the grandmother guarded her granddaughter while talking to a suitor. Several times I signaled to Lucas to leave us alone so we could talk properly. CHAPTER 20-Zara’s POV ”What? You can't breathe? Oh no, are you dying? Lucas, come on! You're such a tease! Wait a moment, I'll call an ambulance,” I tried to stay calm, but I was still panicking, so I asked Antoinette for help. I asked her to call an ambulance for us, and she promised to do everything she could to get the ambulance to arrive in less than ten minutes. While waiting for help, I went to Lucas and raised his head, propping him against my body. “Lucas, just endure a little longer, okay?” I said and adjusted his position so that the pillows were piled on top of each other to support him. I needed to change his clothes before the ambulance would arrive. I took a t-shirt and shorts from his luggage. I didn't have any trouble putting the t-shirt on him. CHAPTER 21 – Lucas’s POV After being recharged from the hospital, I thanked Zara for taking care of. He acted like a through wife. In fact, I felt bad when I left home to meet Giselle. We just got home when I received Giselle’s message that she was coming home. Then, as soon as Giselle sent me her beautiful picture while boarding on a plane, I totally forgot that it was Zara who stayed with me lately. I was at the airport and eagerly waiting for Giselle’s arrival in Claybourne. I missed her so much and I couldn’t wait to spend the day with her again. In fact, I cleared my schedule of all pending appointments, meetings, and business luncheons to focus solely on her. As I saw her walking in my direction, my heart raced, and I immediately kissed her. I couldn’t contain my excitement and emotions as if I wanted to memorize every detail of her face. CHAPTER 22 – Zara’s POV When he was discharged from the hospital, I thought he would stay at home, but once again, my heart was shattered. I heard him talking to Giselle on the phone. Although I was used to it, I couldn’t stop myself from being hurt. Then, Lucas didn't come home last night, and to my surprise, I stumbled upon a social media post about the famous model, Giselle, returning to the country. Right there and then, I knew that Lucas spent time with Giselle. Damn it! Why would he keep going back and forth? He still loved that bitch, and yet, he got jealous when I become chummy with Nick! As much as I didn’t want to think so much about it, I ended up stalking every post that was made about the supermodel Giselle, and my eyes widened in shock when I stumbled upon a post where Giselle was seen hugging Lucas Blackwood in the airport. CHAPTER 23 – Zara’s POV I opened the door to be greeted by a mixture of alcohol and his cologne, suffocating the air around him. Lucas, being of mixed race, had a flushed complexion, most likely from drinking. Why was he drowning his sorrows in alcohol? Had he fought with Giselle? “Lucas? What do you need? It's late, and you haven't slept,” I told him, concerned. He stared at me intently before speaking in a serious tone. Though he wasn't stuttering, his words came slowly. “You know, it's all your fault,” he said, pointing his finger at me. I wasn't sure if he was angry or something else, but I felt a surge of guilt. What had I done this time? I should stay quiet and go to sleep! But guilt started creeping in; maybe I was the one at fault.
