12. LIVING IN A FOOL'S PARADISE
William woke up very early the next morning. Throwing the covers off his body and trying to sit up, he stole a glance at the sleeping figure lying next to him. She was still soundly asleep.
He padded into the bathroom to brush his teeth, trying as much as possible to avert his eyes from the mirror which seemed to mock him. He wasn't even fifty yet but a considerable amount of grey hair had began showing, especially at his sides. His once vibrant eyes were looking tired now and the dark circles under them didn't help at all, they must have shown up due to his inability to sleep the night before. The bathroom was splendid really, spacious, finely tiled in white and the entire setting was well put together. The shower had a huge shower head and there was a Jacuzzi in the corner and a toilet. The bathroom mirror was very large, with a medicine cabinet and all the other necessities. It was a Friday night, and William and his fiancee had decided to spend it with a couple of movies and some serious cuddling. William had come around eventually and he had realised that he was being unfair to Reggie. All the woman had ever done was love him and give him her all and the very least he could do was show her some appreciation and stop being an ungrateful ass.The living room was beautiful and very plush. It had all the evidence of a bachelor pad but luckily for William, Reggie wasn't really bothered by that. On the outside, she seemed like the perfect girly girl, hell she was a supermodel, but indoors, she could switch it up, forget about the glam, and really kick ass during video games and Will loved that. She was just like Louisa in that aspect.William realised where his brain had strayed to and did everything possible to halt its progress. Saturday dawned bright and early and Naa Larley groaned tiredly as she felt the room brighten with sunlight."Wake up...It's morning." She heard Louisa gush as she hastily turned to her side and used a pillow to cover her face."I don't know how you're so energetic this early in the morning but please get out and lemme sleep. " She complained bitterly.But Louisa was undeterred, pausing briefly from her active task of opening the curtains, she stated. "But you said we'd think of what to do with the girls today. You said we'd have so much fun with you here and a-""I know I know...But I'm sure it's only six o'clock. We have the whole day and you know I don't joke with my weekend sleep... plus I can't even have coffee so lemme catch some extra shuteye- thirty minutes I promise." Naa Larley pleaded.Louisa sighed. "William are you okay?" Reggie asked him as she combed her hair in front of the dressing mirror. She had been observing her man for about twenty minutes and he seemed troubled. She didn't understand. Everything was getting back on track, and he was almost his normal self..that is, until the night after they came back from the beach, she really didn't get what was going on. Their eyes met, bluish-grey clashing with dark brown and William sighed.How was he going to break it to her that he wanted to end things? He really didn't want to hurt her feelings but he knew there was no way she was coming out of this relationship without getting hurt.He stood up from the bed and knelt before his fiancee, turning her chair so she faced him completely.Taking in a deep breath, he said. "Reggie, I want us to break up."The woman looked at him for a long while and then burst out laughing."Whew William, that was a good one. Okay I admit it now, you're a little funny."

"Should I wear the red one or the beige one?" Louisa asked as she held the two dresses up so her friend could help her make a choice. She had initially decided to wear something simple, but as luck would have it, Naa Larley had voice called her right after she stepped out of her bathroom and when she had learnt of her dear friend's agenda, she had immediately switched to video call to "help her girl out.""It depends on where you are going Lou. "Hurry up Isa, else you're going to be late." Louisa shouted from the kitchen. For the first time in a long time, she was having a morning meal... a cup of coffee and some bread and scrambled eggs, at home. She had woken up very early today, so she had a lot of time on her hands and could even manage some breakfast.Mrs. Mensah sat at the table across from her, a pleased look on her face. Louisa could tell it was definitely because she was eating breakfast, so she decided to pretend to not have noticed the look on her mother's face."You were up very early today." "You have a daughter?!" William asked incredulously as he stared at the young teen looking back at him with wide eyes. His gaze shifted frantically from mother to daughter as if that would help analyse their features and confirm if it were really true. Louisa herself stood rooted in shock. This was honestly not how she imagined her greatest fear coming to fruition."You really need to leave William, you got what you wanted to say off your chest, and equally got what you came here for." She concluded when she came to her senses but realised her words seemed to have had no effect, for the handsome man made no move to exit her office. She turned to her daughter who still stood at the doorway looking on in interest.She inched closer to her daughter after a deep intake of breath. "Isa honey, could you give us a moment? "How long before I get out of this place doctor?" Naa Larley tiredly asked as the male doctor checked her vitals. The door sharply opening barred the doctor from giving any comments to that question."You'll be bloody spending the rest of the pregnancy here at the hospital if you don't stop working." Louisa spat out in anger as she marched into the private ward with Mike in tow. They had both arrived at the same time, and were quickly directed to their patient's ward. The poor man rushed over to his wife and engulfed her in a long hug."Naa, thank God you're okay." He breathed her in. "You have no idea how worried I was." He whispered as he brushed a few hairs away from her face.Louisa stood across the bed, arms folded. Mike was in an emotional position right now, therefore she had to be the tough one."You've got to stop working Naa... or at least work from home. Too much stress isn't good for you or the baby." A knock sounded at the door, causing Louisa to jump with a start at its suddenness. Naa Larley laughed. "Jeez, relax girl." She teased. Turning her gaze to the door she hollered."Come in!"The two friends watched as the door tentatively opened to reveal a smartly dressed Chris Ayettey holding a bouquet of tulips in his arms."Good evening ladies." He greeted after he had shut the door behind him, eyes opening in surprise when his gaze landed on the woman sitting upright on the hospital bed."Naa Larley?" He turned to look at Louisa for confirmation as Naa Larley proudly grinned and answered. "The one and only."Chris was still stunned. "God, I can't believe this." He muttered as Louisa stood up to take the beautiful flowers from his grasp and place them in the second vase that sat at the only desk in the room, right next to the bunch of roses.He looked at her accusingly.
