Topkesi, woke up one morning, as his custom was, he poured out some wine and spread some cola nuts under the big iroko tree in his compound, in allegiance

to the gods, that morning, the silence in Topkesi's compound was

unusual, apart from the hiss sound coming from a host of beetles,

"gods of our land, I greet you, gods of our ancestors, I greet you, I

have come again to seek your blessings and benevolence over this

farming season, gods of our fathers, grant unto me a good return from

my labour, and may the land yield her increase, grant unto our people
