Chapter XVII

"I cannot believe he turned his back on us." Keith paced around the room, his hands joined behind his back, and his eyes frowned. Carolyn was watching him quietly as she brushed her little brother's hair. He has been acting that way since they saw Alec in the palace with the king. Keith thought his best friend gave up on him and his family for silver coins and an honourable position by the Mad King's side. It was almost unbelievable to see him in his guard's uniform and working so closely next to the king.  

"I still think my brother was forced to take that position," Carolyn said with a calm voice to avoid making Keith angrier. "Alec would never side with that mad man." she shook her head.
