Chapter 33

Heidi walks into the room and sees me fretting over my side with a string of bandages. Her frown tells me I'm doing a poor job. Like I don't know that already.

Sitting, she takes off her boots. But then she pauses, and looks in my direction. "Good fight."

I still, looking in her direction. She goes on to shrug off her training clothes, all casual, like it isn't the first time she's spoken to the person she's been sharing a whole room with. "Thanks, I guess," I mutter.

A quick nod. A few minutes crawl by before she disappears under her duvet. Her soft snores soon fill the space.

I grunt, wrapping the last of my bandages. Due to my injury, Umber and I won't be going down to the woods today. Regret burns through my chest. I had to get out of here. Fast. 

Gingerly, I pull myself underneath the duvet, settling onto my pillow. Moonlight filters into the room and I hear the distant sound of seagulls. I lift a hand, staring at the pale limb suspended
