Athena was sprawled over a half-naked Alpha who had an emotionless look. The week went smoothly with no hitch or trouble. Xerxes and I still met up a few times at the cave. Right now I am going to see Xander. Agnia mentioned that he wanted to see me. I knocked on the door and waited for a response. The door knob turned and I stepped back. A tall woman stepped outside and without sparring me a glance, she scurried off. "Enter Frost" I pushed the door open further and entered. "Good to see you. How have you been?" "Very well" I smiled and he returned it. "I want to talk to you about something" his tone changed into a serious one. "Did something happen?" I asked fear creeping in. The days leading to the banquet were one of the busiest days I’ve ever witnessed. The whole building was in a frenzy. Maid cleaning and dusting beds and linens were changed. I wasn’t left out of the duties. I cleaned everything and it felt like my fingers were to fall off. And oftentimes, it felt like I was being watched. By whom? I have yet to find out. Luckily I’ve not run into the Alpha and Athena. Xerxes has been scarce and even Xander was nowhere to be seen. With all the activities I didn’t find the time to go to the cave like I badly wanted to. How could I have missed it? It was the scent in the office. I looked the man dead in the eye. He had seen me in the office. That was the only reasonable explanation for his attitude in the last hour. But back to the issue at hand, poisoning? It was a hefty accusation. One that could cost me my life and I was already thinking of ways to defend myself. He wrapped his fingers around my throat, cutting off my air supply. I clawed at his fingers and tried to get some air in. I was in so much pain when I opened my eyes. My muscles ached and my back felt raw. A strangled cry left my lips and I moved. "Stay" a soft voice whispered close to my ears instantly causing my body to relax "I can't fucking believe him" I heard an angry voice say. "Let it go," the first voice said and it went silent. I didn't fall asleep again I was conscious but very weak. I heard movement around the room and whispers but i couldn't tell exactly who they were. The bed dipped as someone climbed on it and I felt gentle fingers run over my back. The minty smell of herbs filled my nose and soon I fell asleep. For the next couple of hours, I slipped in and out of consciousness but each time, there was someone in the room. The next time I woke up, I was on my back. My back didn't feel as terrible as it felt the first time I woke up. I was laying on a bed in a familiar room. The sunlight shone directly on my face. My teeth clattered as I walked around the cold night. The cave could have been warm for me but it was too cold and dark to make the trip up there. Also the issue with the rogues, I didn't want to get hurt. Xander's revelation about the maid's death filled my head and a horrifying image of how the slave must have looked after getting mauled appeared in my head. Her death was still a mystery to me. How did she end up dead? How did she even go missing? My legs felt tired so I slumped tiredly at the side of the house wrapping my arms tightly around myself and praying to the goddess to keep me safe. And Sydney, why was she acting strange? Did something happen? No matter how hard I thought about it and wished for answers, nothing became clear. I got even more confused about everything. So I decided to stop thinking.
