CHAPTER 5

It was way past eight and my phone was in my hand. Blaed's name was on the front screen but I kept debating if I should call or not.

The best option would be to move on and just leave town. Cut of all ties with him. But I needed to make it clear that we were done so he would know to never come after me again.

I took a deep breath. I was going to call him.

Then just do it and get over it.

I unblocked him and I dialed his number and he picked on the first ring.

"Babe. I've been trying to call you. What's wrong? Did I do anything?"

I scoffed. He was a perfect actor pretending like he didn't do anything.

"My love talk to me"

"I am breaking up with you"

"What? Babe no. What did I do? Whatever it is, we can get over it. Communication always works. Tell me, what did I do?"

"Don't fucking ask me that. You lied to me for two years and you were married all along"

He didn't say anything.

"Babe... it's not like that. I can explain. I..."

"I don't care for your explanation" I hung up the phone. He was only going to tell me lies. Try to find a way to convince me that it wasn't like that.

He called me again and I didn't pick. The phone rang over and over again but I didn't answer. A message came in from him.

"Call me back or I'll come to your house"

"I'm not at home" I texted back.

"I know you are. Just pick up so I can talk to you or I'll come there"

He called again  and I picked.

"What"

"Listen love. I'm sorry for not telling you. I was working to end things with her"

"Stop lying Blaed. I saw the message from your gynecologist. I saw your wife. I saw the pictures. You were not going to do anything. You were only going to keep lying to me. To her" I shouted angrily.

"We need to see"

"No. I'm not seeing you Blaed. Stay away from me"

"I'll come over to your house and I'll cause a scene if you don't come out to answer me"

"Don't even dare. I'll call the police"

"Please"

"Don't show up at my house Blaed. Imogen will be here and she'll fuck you up" he knew not to show up here.

"Then I'll go to your mother. Maybe then you'll finally see me"

I scoffed. "You'll go that low? Maybe when you get there, you can tell her that you're a fucking married man"

"Not married. I'm not married anymore. Please just see me and listen to what I have to say"

"No. Leave me alone. I don't wish you a good life. I pray you stay unhappy for the rest of your life. I wish you the worst life you could ever imagine and I hope you die" I said angrily and I hung up.

A new message came in a short while later. I knew it was him already before I looked at my phone.

"Don't underestimate my desire to see you Arcelia. I'll go to your mother if I have to. Meet me at the red club"

I deleted the messages immediately. He was only bluffing and he wouldn't dare go to my mother. I tried to not think about it but it was impossible. They had a close relationship.

He could very well do it. He was shameless as fuck but my mother loved him and I didn't want her to find out what happened. It'll break her heart. She wasn't the strongest when it came to emotional matters and I didn't want anything to trigger her blood pressure.

I'm dealing with this a whole lot better than she ever would. She was expecting us to get married soon. I sighed. I would eventually have to tell her but when everything has calmed down. I'll think of an excuse and break the news to her.

Two new messages came in. One from Imogen and the other from Blaed.

"I'll be there by 10:30. Make some food" Imogen's text read.

"I'll be waiting for you" Blaed's text read.

I was conflicted. Going to see Blaed was the most foolish decision ever but I didn't want him to go to my mother. It was just to see him.

The red club wasn't too far from here. I would be back in twenty minutes tops and make something for Imogen.

I didn't leave a note because I didn't plan on telling her I met up with Blaed. She'll lose it completely.

I dressed in something comfortable and grabbed the bag I came back from work with. I ordered an Uber that drove me to the red club. It was busy but not as busy as it'll be once the clock struck twelve.

I entered inside and looked for our spot. It was empty and I took a seat there waiting for him.

"You have two minutes to show up here if not, I'm leaving and I'm placing a restraining order on you" I sent the message quickly and put the phone back into my bag.

The rock music playing was loud. A strange man came up to me but I couldn't hear shit. I simply smiled and waved at him so he could move on. He took the hint and left me alone. I was grateful for that.

A minute had gone by and a new message entered.

"I'll be there soon" I read on my phone.

I put into my back again and my fingers hit something. It was a parcel. The parcel that the receptionist had given to me earlier today. I examined the package and shook it. It was very light and made no sound.

I started unwrapping the paper while I waited, curious to see what would be inside. It revealed a small box that looked like a jewelry box.

I noticed a small note attached to the wrapping sheet and I peeled it off. I was about to start reading it when the club went dark. The music stopped instantly and murmurs filled the club. I reached inside my bag for my phone when there was a loud bang.

I jumped in fright and fumbled with my phone to turn off the flashlight when I felt a prick in my neck.

My limbs went limp instantly and the darkness tried to take over. I struggled to keep my eyes open but I failed.

I slipped from the couch and waited for the impact with the floor but it never came. I fell into strong arms.

"Easy" the voice says just before I passed out.
