Chapter 6

"Shit. Shit" I muttered under my breath as I grabbed my bags. I ran out of the room only to realize that I was barefoot.

I dropped the bag and ran into the room searching for my shoes. I found them and grabbed them putting them on as I ran out again grabbing my bags.

"Be careful Paisley" my mother shouted at the same time I hit my foot on the chair.

"Fuck" I cursed.

"You have to be careful. You'll hurt yourself" Nevaeh said from the kitchen doorways as she watched me run around like a headless chicken.

"I'm late Nevaeh. I'm in so much trouble" I hurried for the door.

"Don't forget to Kamiko" she called out before I slammed the door shut. Shit. I forgot to call her yesterday. The call would have to wait until later today. Firstly, I needed to get to work.

I couldn't run on my feet. I was already so late. I took a cab to the office.

"You're late" the receptionist Patricia said to me cocking her head to the side.

"I know. My alarm didn't work this morning"

"You'll have to explain to the boss. He asked me to send you in once you came"

"Fuck" this was it for me. My boss didn't like me already and had been looking for a way to get rid of me. He was going to give me hell for coming late.

I rushed to my desk to drop my things then went into the bathroom. I looked like a crazy woman. No wonder the cab man kept staring at me though the rear view mirror.

"Late again?" Ermina said as she stepped out of the stall. I ignored her. I fixed my hair and she just stared at me. Her continuous staring started irritating me and I turned to her with a glare.

"What?"

"Nothing" she shrugged.

"Just imagining how your ugly face would look when the boss fires you" I saw her smirk before she stormed out of the bathroom slamming the door behind her.

I flinched at the sound. I hoped the boss hears it too. Maybe she'll get fired. The boss hated me, but he hated Erwina even more. I fixed myself quickly and went to his office.

I knocked on the door but there was no response. I knocked even harder and heard a loud shout from inside. I assumed he asked me to come inside and pushed the door open.

"Did I ask you to enter?" he glared at me.

"You said..." I remembered he didn't actually ask me to enter.

"No"

"So why the fuck did you enter?"

There was no point in arguing. "I'm sorry"

"Get out" I bit my tongue and nodded and stepped out of the office. I couldn't go anywhere until he finished speaking to me. That meant my days work will have to be delayed. He was doing this to punish me. Fucking bastard.

I paced at his door while waiting for him to call me in. I stood there for over thirty minutes still waiting for the idiot to call me. I had two options. Well three.

Go back to my table and get fired. There was no way I was doing that. Knock again and have him extend my waiting time. I knew he was waiting for me to knock again.

The third option was to wait and I was found it.

"Boss giving you a hard time?" A young handsome man asked. I had seen him around the office but we never spoke to each other. I never had a reason to.

I sighed deeply. "When does he ever not"

The boy chuckled. "True. I'm Declan" he extended his hands and I stared at it for a few seconds before I took it.

"Paisley"

"I know. You're quite popular around here"

"I am?"

He chuckled again. "Of course. Your issues with the boss and the other lady. Erwina"

I rolled my eyes and he continued. "Sometimes we make a bet on who you're going to fight with"

My mouth opened in shock. They did that?

"So you guys see me as a troublemaker?"

"No" he said quickly.

"It's just that...."

"Never mind" I cut him off. I didn't care for an explanation and I didn't give two ducks what they thought about me. I was nice to those who were nice. If I'm being a bitch it's because I'm returning their energy.

"So.. do you like want to grab lunch with me?"

"You seem to have forgotten my situation. There's no lunch for me"

"Right. Maybe another time?"

"No"

"Oh" his disappointment was as clear as day but I didn't feel bad. What's the point of giving excuses when I could just be honest. Besides, the only reason he was asking me to lunch was because he had an interest in me. I had a boyfriend. I wasn't going to give him false hope.

"Okay then. I'll be on my way. See you later" I have a small wave as I watched him walk away. I noticed his friend who was trying to hold in his chuckle as he walked towards him.

I rolled my eyes. Children. They probably also made a bet to see if he could take me out. Ridiculous.

With one last look at me, Declan disappeared as he turned into the corner.

"Come in" I heard from inside.

"Finally" I muttered before plastering a fake smile and pushing the door open. He was laid back on the chair, a drink in his hand and a condescending look on his face.

"You came late. Again"

"Again? It was just today" I shouted on impulse and he arched his brow.

"I'm sorry. My alarm didn't go off"

"That is not our business Paisley. I pay you to work and not to give any fucking excuse. But it seems that is all you know how to do" he screamed at me and I winced.

"I'm sorry" I said again. There was nothing I could do but continue to apologize. He studied me and I scratched behind my ear.

"This is your last warning Paisley. The next time I won't let you off easily. You hear me?"

"Yes boss"

"Now get the fuck out"

"Yes boss" I turned to leave.

"And no lunch for you" he shouted. I rolled my eyes and fought the urge to slam the door as I went out. I saw the other employees hurry back to their work. They were listening to our conversation.

I squared my shoulder and walked to my desk. I heard a snicker as I passed Erwina.

"That'll teach you"

I ignored her and sat on my desk pulling out my work to get busy. I heard footsteps draw closer and looked up to see Patricia.

"Boss is an ass" she said in an effort to console me.

I laughed loudly. He was indeed an ass and if I didn't need this fucking job I would have told him what I thought to his face and packed my shit.

Patricia returned to her desk when she heard the sound of the bosses door opening. I quickly opened the folders and stared intently at the papers. I felt his heated glare as he walked past my table but I didn't look up.

Today was going to test my patience.
