Chapter 30

            It was five o’clock, and Debbie was still in surgery. No one on the medical staff could tell her anything — or wouldn’t. Jessica didn’t know which. She had called her parents when she had arrived at the hospital. Her mother sat beside her. Her father was on the other side.

            Jessica had called the detective who left her a message. She had said that she was in the middle of something, but she and her partner would come to the hospital to speak to her personally along with the other parents.

            She looked up at the other worried parents in the OR waiting room. She wondered if she had the same concern, anguish, and frustration on her face.
