Chapter Ninety Nine

Seeing that his word had no effect on Emma, Trevor's facade shattered. He sank into his chair, hiding his face in his hands. His voice cracked as he spoke. "I loved you, Emma. I still do" he sniffed, " I never wanted any of this. She made me do it."

Emma's brow furrowed, her mind racing. Who was he referring to?

"Who?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. Trevor looked up at her, tears streaming down his face. His red and swollen eyes held a mix of pain and longing that she couldn't decipher.

He opened his mouth to speak, his trembling lips forming words. But then he shook his head, his jaw clenched. Suddenly, he stood up and reached for a handkerchief, roughly wiping his face. The vulnerability that had broken through his hardened face disappeared, replaced by a cold mask of indifference as he looked down at her.
