Chapter 8

Cristin motioned to me with her eyes, asking me what to do. I could see that she was also struggling.

I quickly calmed myself down. I knew that if I wanted to keep this child, no one should know its existence, especially the Imperial doctor.

However, it is routine for Doctor Hu to check my pulse regularly every month. Moreover, even though Zach has forbidden me to go anywhere, no one treated me harshly about my daily expenses on food and clothing, and Doctor Hu still took care of my body as usual.

So, what method should I think of to refuse him to check my pulse?

I lowered my head and my eyes fell on the bird\'s nest soup that Cristin was still holding. I followed my guts and intuitively raised my hand to knock over the bowl in her hand.

With a loud popping sound, Cristin was taken aback, surprise evident in her voice, \"My lady!\"

\"Go away!\" I screamed. I was worried that it wasn\'t intense enough, so I just smashed the vase on the window sill and dropped it on the ground. \"Get out of here! Get out!\"

At this moment, not only Cristin, but even the eunuchs who had been waiting outside the door before heard the commotion and looked inside.

Cristin immediately understood what I meant. While holding me, she deliberately spoke loudly and persuaded, \"Okay, my lady, don\'t be angry. Be careful of your body, and let the servants leave.\"

With that said, she gave me a look, then turned and walked out.

I easily picked up another vase and threw it out, yelling hoarsely, \"Go tell Zach that I don\'t need him even if I die in this Showa Palace!\"

The vase cracked, and I heard Doctor Hu cautiously asking at the door, \"Concubine Lisa, this is...\"

Cristin sighed, \"The Imperial doctor doesn\'t know. Concubine Lisa has been in a bad mood since she was restrained in the palace by the Emperor. Today, she accidentally heard some rumors outside. She’s in a really bad mood right now.\"

\"Then what should we do...\" Doctor Hu\'s tone seemed helpless.

\"You also know what kind of temperament the Concubine has. She is stubborn when she gets angry. Fortunately, except for her bad mood recently, she has been very well, otherwise...\" Cristin said as she groaned. \"It\'s better to go straight to the Emperor and say that the Concubine is angry and refused to see people. We have no choice but to be servants. I think that if the Emperor really cares for the Concubine, he will naturally come to Showa Palace to see her. Until the Emperor is willing to come, then there’s nothing left for us to do.\"

Cristin is worthy of being one of Zach’s people, she knew Zach\'s temper well—the more I make trouble, the more he will ignore me. That’s why she said this on purpose. Firstly, she discharged any responsibility on Doctor Hu so that the Imperial doctor wouldn’t be implicated later on. Secondly, she also helped me win the opportunity to let me have enough time to think about how to deal with the baby in my stomach.

\"That\'s the way it is,\" Doctor Hu said with a sigh, \"but if the Concubine has any discomfort, please send someone to tell me.\"

\"Of course. Well, if the doctor finds it easy to leave, I won’t see you off.\"

I breathed a sigh of relief and fell to the side of the bed.

There were fading footsteps outside the door, faintly mixed with the eunuchs and palace ladies cautiously asking, \"Ma’am Cristin, did the Concubine hear us gossiping earlier?\"

\"Why, are you ashamed? If it wasn\'t for your gossiping, the Concubine wouldn’t have lost her temper,\" Cristin reprimanded in a deep voice. \"I’m telling you, the next time I hear you say these silly nonsense again, I won\'t be able to forgive you as the first one!\"

\"Yes, yes, the servants no longer dare, and we ask Ma’am Cristin to intercede for us in front of the Concubine.\"

\"As long as you stay on your side, the lady will not treat you badly. However, the Concubine hasn\'t been in a good mood these past few days. You should stay away and stop loitering around here to annoy her. What are you waiting for? Go!\"

\"Yes, yes, the servants are leaving. If you need anything, please tell us.\"

It wasn\'t until the people outside were far away that Cristin opened the curtain and walked in again.

Without thinking about it, I just got up and knelt down with my knees bent.

Cristin was horrified, and hurriedly came over to help me, \"My lady, what are you doing? Get up!\"
