‘’Did I interrupt something?’’ I put on a knowing smile and watched how her face paled with horror. Badmouthing the boss’s woman wasn’t a good decision from the start, but the boss’s woman hearing you personally was even worse.

‘’Good morning, Miss McCarner.’’ That was the other woman participating in the earlier conversation. I smiled politely at her without the ridicule I held for her colleague. She didn’t say anything bad about me and even was frankly surprised when she heard the gibberish the first one said. I had a good feeling for people like her.

‘’Miss McCarner, since how long have you been listening?’’ I raised my brows at the impudent question of the first one. Not only she talked behind my back, but she also had the guts to question me like I was her subordinate.
