Chapter Fourteen - A Taste of Freedom

“Let me at least take you home.” Noah pleaded as Lucy shook her head sadly.

“No. I don’t think that’s a good idea. I just want to be alone right now.” She replied firmly, the sadness in his eyes tormenting her as it pulled at her heart.

Could she save their relationship if she stayed with him?

It was so difficult to know for sure, but she really wasn’t willing to take the risk, and giving him any sense of false hope just felt wrong to her. If he wasn’t going to accept the rejection, then there was nothing that she could do to break the link, until he accepted it.

“Lucy..please…” He murmured hoarsely, his voice cracking slightly as she forced herself to ignore the hurt in his eyes.

“No. I’ll make my own way home. It’s for the best.” She said firmly as she turned and walked away, incredibly grateful for the jacket's protection against the cool summer air that was such a stark contrast to the day's heat.

‘We could always run home you know?’ Maia suggested eagerly.
