Chapter 16

Isabeau's POV

The words play in my head over and over again; the effect becomes stronger each time. Is this a proposal?

No way! Loic is innocent and I'm just overthinking this.

"You'll always have me, Loic. We'll always be friends, I'd never abandon you." I promise with a smile.

His eyes lower almost dispiritedly at the mention of 'friend' but it quickly morphs to a bright smile and I have to wonder if I imagined it.

"It's late, we should go to bed. We've got a long journey ahead of us." I say conclusively and he nods.

I get into my sleeping bag while he lays on the soft grass beside me. I close my eyes and try my best to drift off into a restful slumber.

Despite the warmth my sleeping bag provides, the cool night air still seeps into my skin, causing me to shiver involuntarily despite the heat of the fire.

Loic seems to notice my discomfort and without hesitation, he moves closer, pressing his body against mine. I can feel the heat emanating from him, providing a comforting shield ag
