Chapter 3

Adam wasn’t only shocked by what I had just done to him, he was also amused. I could tell that by the grin that was laced around the edge of his mouth. He glanced at me, a spark I never seemed to notice before behind his eyes.

“You, my little mate are going to be a whole lot of work.” He said.

I didn’t want to gauge the meaning behind the statement. I casually glanced down till my thoughts were interrupted by the bell. We had maths class next. With the look of things, I wasn’t sure I was going to be let off slowly by the Prince. I decided to try my luck anyway.

“We have class, we should leave.” I say as I proceeded to try to walk past him. To no avail. Adam blocked my path.

“Huh?” I said out loud, genuinely confused.

“So cute.” He muttered, then shook his head. “I believe we have a lot to talk about. I can tell this is overwhelming to you so I’m going to give you a few days to think about it. Let’s get something clear. You are my mate, and I’ll be damned if I see you go to another person. Not even that best friend of yours.” Adam finished and the statement got to tick me off.

“Now listen here, Mr prince. I am only your mate if I haven’t rejected you. I am not stupid and I am not a toy. Neither do I also want to be with you. I am just a teenaged. Just 19. I have a whole lot more ahead of me. I don’t even think I see myself with any of your kinds.” I made sure to finish the kind in a disgusted manner.

Adam looked shocked. And then a look of hurt briefly crossed his face. Finally, he settled for irritation. He pushed his legs to settle on his right as he stared straight at me.

“The fact that you haven’t rejected me yet, proves a point. Somewhere deep in there, you can’t ignore the bond. It’s why you keep looking for excuses to stall. I’ll have you know that, I. never. let. go. of. what. Is. Mine.” With that Adam leaves me alone, without batting an eyelash. I was dumbfounded.

“We have maths.” He called before me and that was when my brain geared back into function. I pushed the thought of the Lycan prince away from mind mind. For the time being.

Adam slowed his pace to the extent at which I got to entering the class before him. We were five minutes late and if I wasn’t such a good daughter, I would have just skipped the class altogether. But then, my dad would have been called, and he’d end up getting worried and rushing home, and questioning me and feeling like a failure and the worst parent ever for never being there for me. My dad would not want to understand I could have my problems too. That didn’t have to do with him. I can only say this because it’s happened thrice already.

As soon as I opened the class door, everything stopped along with Mr Wills marker that was writing on the white board. He looked surprised to see me. Probably because I was always early to the class.

“Miss Jennnings, to what do I owe the honor of your presence, late in my class?” Mr Wills asked, his face now contorted in a frown. He was one of those teachers that always wanted to be strict, so they could be feared by students and feel important.

“Well, err, I -“ my speech was cut off.

“She was with me.” Adam walked to the class, standing really close to me I could feel the heat of his body. The position was too intimate to be ignored. The whole class noticed this immediately and loud murmurs began. Emily scoffed and glared at me. I was confused. I tried to move forward a bit but that would only cost me to knock down Mr Wills bag that was resting on the teachers table. I couldn’t risk doing that, not getting a detention.

“Prince Adam?” Mr Wills questioned like he didn’t hear what the Prince previously uttered. I was starting to get uncomfortable when Adam moved closer to me. He was directly behind my butt right now. In fact, I could feel his -oh my gosh. Oh my gosh. I went still. Pretty much red as I saw Mr Wills glance directly at where Adam was now standing.

“In case I was not heard earlier, now that I’m closer to you, I said she was with me. I held her back. I apologize for that. Won’t happen again. Maybe.” Adam said and started to walk to his sit. I sighed with a very much needed relief only to feel myself being dragged by a strong hand. Adam dragged me across the class right to my sit and pulled me down. Everyone was staring. I couldn’t keep my stare in a place until my eyes landed on Remys. Wait, what?

How? When.

And she winked at me. Oh goddess.

It was during lunch I was finally able to catch up with Jimmy. He looked guilty and amused at the same time.

“Don’t you dare give me that look, princess.” Jimmy spluttered. I was now standing in front of him, glaring at him with all my might.

“How could you have done that?” I asked, now playfully hitting him. I made sure to put up my annoyed face so he wouldn’t think I enjoyed meeting the Prince. Not like I did.

“What was I supposed to do? Refuse the prince? Apart from the fact that he’s hot as hell, he’s a prince and don’t you forget, a lycan. He’ll chew me like a brute. I might not seem like it, but I really do not want to die.” Jimmy finished with a mock face of remorse.

“You could have given me a heads up, you know? At least, he gave you your phone back.” I rolled my eyes and we started our way into our usual spot where we usually eat lunch.

“So tell me, how was it? I knew something was up when he could not stop staring at you in the common hall the other day. Does he like you?” Jimmy was now giving puppy dog eyes. I could tell he was really interested in the juicy details.

“Well, I think I’m his mate.” I faked an obvious smile.

“Shut up! Shut up! You’ve got to be kidding me. Get out, are you kidding me?? Holy moon goddess shitting butterflies. You are? Are you?” Jimmy wouldn’t ship lamenting.

He was a hard person to process shocking news. He always does this everytime.

“Yes, Jimmy.” I bit into my sandwich.

“But how? You are human and hes ly-ohhh” Jimmy’s face was not calculating.

“The same thing I asked myself, Jimmy. How can I be his mate? I mean, I’m just human. I had better plans to get out of here, to the human world. To finally live life and stop feeling secluded like a mistake that came into the world with empty purposes. I was going to leave after graduating and now, there’s a hot stuff Lycan prince claiming to be my mate and I’m stuck. Being a princess? A crown princess. Me, the weak human. That is really impossible, Jimmy. I don’t think I’m ready for that. I don’t even think I’m infested in that. I want a family. A human family. We would be a family of four. A girl and a boy, with white picket fencer house and I’ll get my dream kitchen and my personal work place to pursue my writing career.” I finished, my voice sounding really frustrated and tired.

I was tired. My brain was seeming slow to process the whole situation. It was too big to settle and rest in my mind. I didn’t want to think of it. The last thing I wanted was sitting at the throne, doing what? Ordering people around and living a boring life as the queen. I didn’t even like the prince, it was just the stupid mate bond.

“Oh my gosh, this is huge. I didn’t think of all these but do you know that the life you planned out sounds like a cliche life from a W*****d novel of a lost girl with no family.” Jimmy laughed and I joined him. Really, he was right. I sounded so cliche.

“I get that all of these is difficult. Honestly, I don’t know what to say but I know you’ll figure it out. It’s you, Cody. You always think you are weak but you are the strongest person I know. Besides, the Prince is hot. Think of what he’d do with that tongue of his. I bet your left butt he’s every good in bed. I mean, look at his..” I cut him off.

“Shut the hell up, Jimmy. I slapped his arms. “Trust me, I’m not interested in any of that”

He looked at him, wriggling his eyebrows, “are you sure because you went a little red by the mention of that” I laughed nervously. I was definitely not attracted to Adam.

“I am not!” I exclaimed.

“Okay princess, we should get going now.” Jimmy pushed himself up and I joined him. Together we walked down the path to our way home, holding hands. We kept laughing and poking each other.

“Okay, so if you miss this, I get to be the winner and you get to meet and grill with the tickle monster.” Jimmy’s eyes were mischievous. It was a game we usually played quite often on our way home.

“Okay, Boss.” I mock saluted and Jimmy laughed.

“So, what is the Vice Chancellors middle name?”

“What? That’s not fair! I didn’t expect that.” I exclaimed and Jimmy laughed.

“Hey, it’s a game princess. I get it, I’ll pardon you if you call me sexy daddy.”

“Ewwwww.” I exclaimed. I’ll rather chew my dogs poo.” This time, I was already planning to sprint into a run. Jimmy knew this ahead which made me run unexpectedly and he was able to catch me easily.

“Say hello to Mr Tickle monster” Jimmy faked roared and I started laughing and trying to run at the same time. His hands landed on my body with a tingling might. I couldn’t breathe, I was laughing and his breath was on my face. The position was intimate to an outsider but it was a usual to both Jimmy and I. I jelly begging for my dear life. I was pleading with Jimmy when I decided to give in.

“Fine, fine. Sexy daddy. You are sexy, daddy. Please please.” I said in between laughter till my body landed on a rock chest. I almost fell it not for Jimmy’s hands holding me back up.

“That wasn’t funny!” I playful yelled at Jimmy before trying to turn to the intruder. In this position, Jimmy’s hands was now on my waist and his arms on my shoulder. I finally got a view of the person in front of us and I blinked.
