Chapter 17: Something was out there

Kira's POV

I breathed out sharply as I looked at Ken's house. The last time I was here, I was not as scared as I was at that moment. But after seeing how Phoebe was restless after telling me about Ken, it was obvious he was dangerous.

The last thing I wanted was trouble because I was human and couldn't protect myself as effectively. Stealthily, I dropped the book at the door and turned to leave, but the door opened and my heart almost leaped out of my body.

"Ken" I let out a nervous chuckle.

He looked down at the book in front of the door and looked back at her.

"You were leaving?"

"Not really" I let out a mild laugh. "I was going to come back. I had...."

"What did Austin tell you?" he asked and I could see the way his face had a glare on it.

"Like what?" I asked, trying to keep my cool, but I wasn't doing a good job. He was smart and observative, so he could tell I was lying and also uncomfortable.

He got down from the platform where he stood and took the book that was on the floor.
