They say magic was a power bestowed by the gods and the ones who wields the power had sacrifice something in return. The humans and the other race had unique abilities which they have possess since the first war against race.

The were beast gave up their will and became the strongest, humans give up the strength and became the smartest, demons give up their sanity and became merciless, sylphs give up their power and attain holiness and elves give up their judgement and became the finest.

While the first war had ended, demons won and dominate the world as they began to enslave the other race but no one was happy and satisfied with it. The gods were threatened by the prominent power of the demon race and chose candidates of each race to overpower the demons.
