Kai:

“Why are you working for my father anyway? Don’t get me wrong, but why doesn’t your father do it?” I asked, shaking my head in question.

Irina, who was taking a sip of her coffee, put the cup down. She looked at me, studying my expression for a second, before she grabbed the fork to run over the chocolate syrup that was around the fondue.

“I won’t bite, Irina.”

“I can’t say that I genuinely believe that.” She said, making me chuckle.

“I told you, I am not going to lay a finger on you unless you want me to. It would eventually happen, but it would be on our terms, both our terms.” I said, my voice softening as I spoke. “But you are yet to answer my question.”

“My parents were thrown into a tough situation and the Alpha didn’t make it any easier for us. While I know that you might judge…”

“I don’t judge without evidence, Irina.” I said, stopping her. Her eyes met mine and she shook her head.

“You are one strange personality, I have to admit that much.” She said, choosing her words
