Casting Futures into the Stars

The third brother stared at the others. His eldest brother, Yuri, came alone. His wife was too busy with her business affairs that she chose a business trip over this dinner. He appeared to be the most elegant and eloquent among them, and yet his veiny hands knew more hard work than all. On his face were a pair of thin glasses and their mother’s tall nose no one else inherited.

Three chairs away was the second brother, Zenon. He arrived with his vain wife, even constantly retouching her makeup to appear the best. However, if one looked closer at her head, her blonde hair was nothing but dyed. As for him, he was also dyeing his hair. After all, he was too young to sport silver hair—one attributed to Yuri.

Next to them was a young girl with a princess crown. She was so grumpy she was grumbling under her breath and sliding down her seat. However, when she saw Eine, she glared and moved to sit up properly. That butterfly hairclip on Eine’s hair was synonymous with her being loved.

The last group sat a chair away from the girl. He had this youthful handsomeness and visage of danger, but the pure arrogance in his eyes was a red flag to Delta. Next to him was a dainty woman who looked like a supermodel. Her dark hair was curled away from her face, but the fierce look complimented the shape of her dark lips.

Wolfram just showed up and made a quick gaze at everyone. However, the woman with blonde hair stopped drawing her lips and smirked in his direction. “Oh, it’s Wolfram. I’m surprised you even appeared without running late this time.”

“Will I ever do something that you won’t comment on?”

The way Wolfram responded to her sounded like this was the first time this woman picked on him. Delta’s eyes quickly sought her image in the crowd for a second look. Aside from the vanity and fast aging on her face, Delta found no beauty. The mother could even superimpose a loose-skinned hyena on that person. Delta was never this kind of person, but this woman repulsed her to the bone.

Of course, the woman felt the weight of Delta’s gaze. “What are you looking at?”

“Sorry, I was just curious. Wolfram said we are meeting his family, but… he didn’t mention anything about his auntie.” Delta smiled instead. Violence was not the only answer, and women knew a bloodier battle than a fistfight.

“Excuse me, what did you just call me?” The ‘old’ woman gasped in shock. She then turned to the man next to her. “Zenon, did you hear what she called me? An auntie? Did she just call me an auntie?”

Zenon glanced at his wife before he turned to Wolfram. “Hey, Wolfram. You brought a woman with kids here. They’re not yours, so which drunkard on the streets knocked off that slut? Or do you believe you gave her little headaches?”

Wolfram’s eyes widened in shock. How fierce. This big bad wolf was surely angry before they even showed up. It’s just that he didn’t want to discuss anything with any of these brothers.

“That’s so sad. You call them headaches?” Delta reached out to pat Eine’s head. She was so sure Eine and Foxley could understand what that man just said. They were already old enough to feel bad about not having their own father. She should at least find a way to hit the man back. “My headaches are called Eine and Foxley. What do you call yours?”

“…” The two kept quiet. They wouldn’t be caught calling their own daughter a headache. The young girl even glanced at her parents and snorted a little.

That was what Foxley caught. He then turned to Wolfram, who was getting really upset. Even Eine was looking down as if her mother was being picked on because of her. The little boy got off his seat and went to hug Wolfram from the side.

“It’s okay if we became headaches to Wolfie and Mommy. We still love you two,” Foxley spoke with seriousness. Then he looked at the girl with a princess crown, who was watching him. “I think she thinks of her mommy and daddy the same way, too!.”

“Ew,” the young girl murmured, earning the glare of the blonde woman.

“Huh? Why not?” Eine shot up her head as if catching the fight Foxley was picking for their parents. “Why don’t you love them? They’re your mommy and daddy. We love Mommy because she’s a good mommy. Is your mommy… not a good mommy?”

The blonde woman gasped. “Devil! How dare you imply I’m not taking care of my daughter? Shut up, little slut. You’re the one without the blood of the Colton here.”

Delta reached out to caress Eine’s head for saying something so blatant, but she heard the blonde woman. She then turned to the woman, soon feigning her shock. “Oh, I’m sorry, Mrs. Zenon Colton… do you have their blood in your veins, too? Doesn’t that make you feel uncomfortable?”

The blonde woman would scream again, but Xander and his girlfriend started laughing. Even Yuri didn’t hide his giggling; he was not participating in their fight, but he would not miss it for the world. Their reactions made the blonde woman feel so humiliated.

“I was just late for a few minutes…” An old voice came from the door that opened. He headed inside with the help of an electric wheelchair. Still, a maid followed him.

The man frowned at the people sitting at the table. “When will I gather you four without your wives cackling like laying hens? You even ordered extra chairs to keep yourselves separated. Is this also the sight during my funeral?”

Yuri, the eldest, shook his head. “You know they won’t choose to humiliate themselves in front of your friends, Dad. I’m sorry Mariska couldn’t attend. It also seemed this is a first for both of my younger brothers. Wolfram brought a woman, and Xander brought the same one from the last time.”

“Yuri, don’t be like that. You know that Xander and I are now forever cast into the stars.” The celebrity woman chuckled as she leaned against the man. After all, their chairs were pushed against each other. She even managed to hug him and kissed his cheek.

“Don’t be too sweet, sugar. The old ones will get envious.” Xander, the youngest among them, giggled as he eyed Yuri as if speaking about him directly.

“I’m curious how long the stars will hold onto your story, Xander, Janelle.” Yuri chuckled and shook his head. He then looked in Wolfram’s direction. “How about you, brother? Where is your future cast?”

Delta didn’t answer right away, but she figured Wolfram would not open his mouth tonight. He already exhausted all his words for these people. However, since Yuri didn’t break eye contact, she continued to smile. “I’ll see where the winds take me and Wolfram.”
