Cassidy POV
I wake to the sun shining in my eyes from the open window. I felt exhausted from tossing and turning all night. I open y eyes to see Jordan watching me before he smiles.
“Morning,” he says. He pulls my hand off his chest. I didn’t even realise I was laying across him. Getting up he walks to the bathroom closing the door behind him. I roll onto my back relaxing into the soft mattress. It was like laying on a cloud, no wonder he always looked well-rested.
“Dad will be back this afternoon, he’s gone to meet with neighbouring pack Alpha’s about your parents,” Jordan yells out from the bathroom. I sit up suddenly, forgetting my parents were missing for a split second. Oh God. I jump out of bed and rush out of the bedroom down the hall to Reigns room.
I grab my clothes, heading to the bathroom I strip off and jump in the shower. Turning the taps on I hear a soft knock at the door. It was Jordan.
“Can I come in?” He asks.
“Ugh sure, but can you close your eyes?” I reply. Nudity was common amongst werewolves, but I didn’t have a wolf, so nobody had really seen me naked, and I planned to keep it that way. He laughs as he opens the door. Eyes closed he feels his way to the vanity before leaning against it. I grab some soap and begin to wash myself, feeling grateful I wasn’t alone.
“So, I asked dad if we could stay home today, I figured you weren’t up for school with everything going on and I wanted to be here for you if you need me.”
“Thankyou,” I reply as I rinse the soap off, watching the suds go down the drain. After a few minutes of silence, I decide to get out. Turning off the taps I open the shower door to see Jordan holding my towel out for me. “Thanks,” I say, taking it from him before wrapping it around my body.
“Can I open my eyes now?” He asks.
“Sure,” I chuckle at the question, appreciating the fact he kept his eyes closed. He looks at me, noticing a sparkle in his eyes before I see them switch to black.
“Cassidy.” Jordan says, but it was deeper, huskier than his normal voice. I take a step back. “Please don’t be scared. I wanted to introduce myself, I’m Koray.” He holds his hand out to me before I realise it’s his wolf. I’ve never seen the veil switch over before, not counting my parents. I wasn’t allowed to attend anything wolf related with the pack.
“Oh, ugh, hi,” I reply as I take his hand shaking it. His palm was soft and warm to the touch. A little warmer than when I held Jordan’s hand last night.
“I was hoping we could chat today?” He continues.
“About what?” I say as I walk out of the bathroom collecting my clothes on the way to get changed in the closet. I shut the walk-in door behind me, leaving it slightly ajar. Koray following me out and sitting on the bed.
“Well, you’re my mate now and I was hoping we could get to know each other. Bond.” Oh.
“Sure, what did you want to know about me?” I grunt as I put my jeans on, sticking to my skin as I pulled them up my legs.
“Is it bad if I say everything?” Koray replies. I walk out of the closet and our eyes meet. His onyx eyes were mesmerising to look at. I quickly look away embarrassed at the thought of wanting to stare into them all day.
“No, but it would help me out if you asked me specific questions, I could answer without giving you my entire life story.” I sit on the bed next to him, grabbing a pillow to put behind me as I lean against the headboard. A childlike grin crosses his face.
“Okay, when’s your birthday?”
“17th June.”
“Next week? Are you doing anything to celebrate?”
“I was going to go to dinner with Lani and my parents...” I trail off, not wanting to talk about them. Koray cocks his head to the side looking at me as I look down fiddling with my hands in my lap.
“So,” he says after a minute, breaking the awkward silence. Even he didn’t know what to say. “What did you want to do today?” I hear Jordan’s voice push back through. Looking up I see hazel eyes staring back at me.
“Where did Koray go?” I ask Jordan.
“He didn’t want to pressure you into talking.” He shrugs before repeating his question.
“Can we just watch a movie or two?” I ask before getting up off the bed. “Plus, I’m super hungry,” I hear my belly rumble as I say it.
“Let’s get breakfast first and then you can out on whatever movie you want,” Jordan says as he gets off the bed, leading me out of the bedroom and downstairs to the kitchen where a spread of food was laid out on the bench.
“Do you have a food fairy or something?!” I ask, shocked at the variety of food sprawled out on varies plates and serving platters. I pick up a croissant before taking a bite.
“No, it’s just Flur, she likes to cook for us. She’s comes over a couple times a week to help dad out. After Reign left, he’s been slacking in the cooking and cleaning department. She always used to help around the house. Maybe that’s why she left…” he trails off as he fills his plate with food.
“Wait so you don’t know why your sister left?” I ask following suit before sitting at the table across from him.
“No. I woke up one morning and dad said she left. I tried to contact her through the mind-link, but I couldn’t feel her. When I told dad, he said she left the pack. Nobody has heard from or seen her since.” We eat in silence as I take this new information in. I wonder what made her leave. I think to myself.
After we eat, we head to the lounge room and Jordan hands me the remote. I look through Netflix before settling on Enola Holmes, a recent favourite of mine. Jordan sits next to me on the couch, and we watch the movie in silence.
The morning dragged on. Jordan went to play video games after the third movie, leaving me downstairs by myself. I usually liked being alone, but the past 24 hours I hated it.
“CASSIDY GET UP HERE NOW,” I head Jordan yell at me. I rush upstairs before Jordan grabs my arm pulling me into his bedroom. He pulls out a small remote and presses one of the little buttons. The shutters start to close and the door locks, trapping us inside his room.
Jordan POV“I’m sorry, dad just told me hunters have been spotted near the house. He wants me to keep you safe.” I tell Cassidy. She looks scared.“Why are there hunters on pack land and why are they near the packhouse?” she asks.“I don’t know. Dad didn’t say but we need to stay in here until he says it’s safe.” I hug her, feeling her calm at my touch. Maybe I could love her, I thought to myself.“You could if you tried,” Koray says, enjoying her touch just as much as I was. “She smells pretty, and she’s soft. Vanessa wasn’t soft.”“Vanessa was a way to kill time, I was glad dad told me to dump her,” I reply to him. Cassidy pulls out of the hug and goes to sit on my bed.“Can we talk?” she asks.“About your parents?” I reply as I make my way over to the bed. She nods as I sit do
I take a step back reluctantly, not wanting to pull away from his arms. His question shocked me. I know we are supposed to be mates, but we are only interim mates. An arranged relationship. Did he actually want a real relationship with me?“I…I can’t.” I get out of the shower grabbing my towel before rushing out the bathroom door. I hr the water shut off in the shower as I get dressed. Leaving my towel on his bed I head for the door.“Cass wait,” Jordan shouts from the bathroom.I reach for the doorhandle turning it. Locked. The safety protocol. How could I forget that we were trapped in here together.“I need to get out,” I shout back at Jordan as he exits the bathroom partially dressed. His muscles shine in the light, still covered in water droplets. He was beautiful and it was effortless. He stood there resting one arm against his dresser whilst drying his hair with the other.“It&r
I put her in my bed before heading back downstairs. Dad had come home and was talking in the lounge room with Samuels. They were arguing about something.“What’s going on?” I ask when I get down the stairs. I walk towards them leaning over the back of the couch waiting for their reply. Dad turns towards me, one hand on his hip and the other wiping down his face before rubbing the stubble on his chin. His brown eyes looked concerned.“Samuels here thinks Cassidy was adopted, which is crazy because she’s a werewolf and we’ve known her since she was a baby.” Dad replies, turning back to face Samuels. “And even if she was adopted, why did they keep it a secret and where did she come from?” he continues.“I mean, I kind of agree with Samuels here dad. Look at it logically. Cass looks nothing like either of her parents, never has. Nobody saw her mum pregnant right?” I say jumping over the back of the co
Cassidy POVIt’s dark when we enter the house, I reach for the light switch by the door, but it doesn’t turn on. I flick it on and off a couple of times before giving up.“No power.” I muse out loud.“Wait here,” Jordan says before running back to his car. I watch him as he rummages through the boot. “Got it!” he yells back holding something in his hand. He runs back towards me and hands me a flashlight.“Thankyou,” I tell him taking it before turning it on. The light illuminates the room and for the first time I see my childhood home empty. I take a step froward into the living room, guiding the flashlight around the room as I take in the bare room. Remembering what it looked like just 24 hours earlier.“Nobody saw a moving truck?” I ask as I turn to look at Alpha Issac standing behind me.“Nobody has seen or heard from them since the pre-meeting
Cassidy POVI stared at my birth certificate. A wave of emotions crashing over me as I read the names listed as my biological parents. Confusion hit first followed quickly by anger and betrayal. They lied to me. How could they lie to me? I feel the tears start to brim in my eyes. I could hear Jordan and his dad talking but I tuned them out. My body shutting down, the confirmation of their suspicion in my hands.Jordan grabs the paper from my hands, putting it back in the folder before wrapping his arms around me and pulling me closer to him. His touch instantly calming the rage starting to bubble. I turn my head into his arm, wiping the tears onto his bare skin.“I want to go home,” I mutter into his arm.“Okay” he replies and leads me back to the car.I sit in the car waiting for Jordan as he talks with his dad and Beta Samuels just out of earshot. I didn’t know what they were talking about,
Jordan POV I stare at Cassidy in shock as she screams. This is the first time I’ve seen her feel anything properly. I knew she was bottling up her emotions, but this was next level. She screams again as she drops to the floor. I rush over, reaching my hand out to her to try to calm her down before she pushes me away. I can hear someone come running down the hall as she continues to scream and cry. Samuels enters the room and looks at her on the ground, me kneeling beside her. He mind-links me. “What’s going on?” concern crossing his face as she screams again. “She’s breaking down. One second we were talking on the bed and the next second she got all angry, started pacing and then she dropped to the floor screaming and crying. I think she’s finally letting herself feel.” I reply to him. He relaxes visibly knowing I didn’t harm her. “I’ll grab her some water for when she calms down again.” He replies and heads back down the hall
Cassidy POV I wake up to an empty bed. My head thumping. I look around the room and notice Jordan isn’t here. Where is he? I think to myself. I get out of bed and head to the bathroom in search of panadol. Opening the cupboards and drawers of the vanity to no success. I look at myself in the mirror. I look like a blotchy mess. I turn the cold water on, cupping my hands beneath the stream. I bend down and splash my face with the water before rubbing my hands over my face. I look back up in the mirror, my face dripping with water and I sigh. I turn the water off and head back into the bedroom. My headache growing in intensity. I decide to head downstairs to see if there’s any panadol in the kitchen. As I walk into the kitchen I notice Jordan sitting on the back steps with Vanessa. What is she doing here? I grab a glass from the cupboard and fill it up in the sink before turning to get some panadol from the basket on top of th
Alpha Issac was listing off the names of different packs he thought I originally came from but none of them sounded familiar to me. I was an infant when we joined the Westford Pack. Our pack was situated almost dead centre of the state. There were packs every way we turned. There was only once road that followed the boarders of every pack and we called that the safe zone. When on that road you were untouchable. My parents must have travelled on that road to get here but from which direction they came was a mystery.“What about Forest Grove Pack?” Alpha Issac says, staring down at the map on his desk.“Nope,” I reply. Another unknown checked off the list.“Evertree?” Jordan asks, reading from a list. I shake my head before resting it on my fist propped up on the side of the leather chair.“Beaufort Pack?” Alpha Issac guesses, uncertainty crossing his face as he looks up at me.“Afraid not.”
