Chapter 8

Elio said sarcastically, "Is that so? Ooh, I'm so scared."

"How dare you!" There was a furious roar. The patriarch of the family, Harrison Jones, made his entrance with the help of his enchanting young secretary. Although Old Master Jones was over seventy years old, he was still physically and mentally sturdy.

Old Master Jones was already furious from embarrassment. After all, this was a day to celebrate his daughter Sienna's marrying into the illustrious Sampson family. He was hoping to use the Sampsons to boost the Joneses' status in the city. However, his useless grandson-in-law had made a mess of everything! The Sampsons were just about ready to pop a blood vessel right now.

His oldest son, Harry Jones, followed his father closely. He frowned and complained, "I don't know what Mother was thinking back then. She brought that scourge into the family, and he's done nothing but cause us trouble ever since!"

The old man looked at Howard and Lana with undisguised resentment. "Look at what you've done. Can't you keep that dog on a leash? How could you let him out? Now he's made a fool of us all!"

Howard had always been afraid of his father. He did not dare to make a sound.

Although Lana was also afraid of her father-in-law, she felt that they were being unfairly accused. She muttered under her breath, "Why are you blaming us? We didn't agree to let him into our family. It was Mother-in-law who forced him on us. What choice did we have?"

Old Master Jones snapped, "Shut your mouth! If you're that unhappy, let Evelyn divorce him and kick him out of the family once and for all."

Lana's face lit up and she quickly said, "That's a great idea! Evelyn doesn't like him either. Just so you know, they never once consummated their marriage. She even made him sleep on the floor! Her purity is still perfectly intact. If she divorces him, she'll definitely be able to marry into a family even better than Sienna's!"

As soon as she said that, the crowd erupted into whispers. All kinds of gazes focused on Elio, and many of them felt sorry for him.

"Poor guy! I was jealous that he landed such a beautiful wife, but it turns out he never even laid a finger on her!"

"So Evelyn is untouched? That's great news! I thought she'd been wasted on him."

A middle-aged man even jumped in to say, "If Evelyn wants to get remarried, I'll marry her even if I have to get a divorce myself! I'll pay five million as the betrothal gift!"

Another man interrupted him, "Ah, shut up, Wayne. Evelyn! Marry me and I'll give you eight million."

"I'll pay ten million…"

These men were shouting out prices as though bidding for a priceless treasure. They were all rich CEOs who were willing to marry Evelyn even if it meant divorcing their own wives! Lana turned to her daughter smugly. "Look, Evelyn. You have so many suitors! Hurry up and say that you'll divorce this good-for-nothing lout so you can get your second chance at happiness."

Old Master Jones was even more supportive of the idea. "Then divorce him and kick him out onto the streets! Evelyn, you don't have to hesitate anymore. Your company has been in trouble recently, right? As long as you divorce him, I will help you solve your funding problem."

Everyone's eyes focused on Evelyn. She flushed, then turned pale. There was no doubt in their minds as to what her decision would be. Even the patriarch of the family had spoken. The divorce was practically confirmed now, because Elio was truly not worthy of her.

Elio was also waiting. His expression was calm, but his fists were clenched. If Evelyn said that she wanted a divorce, he would leave without hesitation. There would be no need for him to stay.

Yvonne watched with interest as well, but unlike everyone else, she was not looking at Evelyn. Instead, she looked at Elio. That guy was quite interesting, she thought to herself. He did not seem to be as spineless as the rumors said. Otherwise, he would have fallen to his knees by now. No, it looked like he was waiting for his cue to leave.

In the end, however, Evelyn shook her head. Her face was pale and her voice was cold as she said, "No matter how terrible he is, I won't get a divorce. You guys were the ones who insisted that I marry him back then, and now you're asking me to get a divorce? What do you take me for?"
