The heat of Lord Draven's body pressed against hers, his chest hard as granite against her trembling form was overwhelming. River had no idea what to do except to shy away from his gaze.

River squeezed her eyes shut as she pinched her own lap in fright. "I'm so sorry, Lord Draven. B-but you didn't have to do that."

His grip tightened painfully on her arm. "Sorry?" he scoffed, planting soft kisses on her nape. "Does sorry clean the stain off his shoes? Does sorry compensate for the trouble you've caused, little human? I think not.”

He was close - too close. River flinched, the rough texture of the wall scraping against her exposed skin. The heat radiating from his body was both frightening and oddly comforting. It was a confusing mixture of emotions
