Chapter Sixteen.

Sorah’s POV.

My shaky hands, trembling incessantly, clutch the top of the chair lightly. I hum lengthily, hunching forward and bearing my weight onto my unstable hands as I gradually lift my head to see my solemn reaction staring back at me.

“My Lady” The tentative call of my handmaid shifts my focus from the pair of drooped jade-greens in the mirror to the pensive deep-chocolates in the lower left of the mirror.

“You don’t mean the words you spoke to that Vampire, do you?”

The rattle in her voice sends a chill of guilt across my chest that clenches briefly at the emotion in her voice.

Reactively, my shoulders shudder and I bite my lower lip, unwilling to give her a response. The curtain of silence that follows afterward, is heavy on my shoulders and stuffy in my throat.

I feel her tension in the air and the longer I retain the words on my tongue, the more the guilt slices deep until I rattle out of my position to straighten up as I force the words out of my hesitant lips.
