“What were you two talking about?” Raelynn enquired as soon as they left the palace. She was eager to find out what the two men had spoken about in her absence and how things had turned out in their favor at the end. But with her brother present in the same room as them, she could not bring up the matter lest she should give an option for Eldrick to change his decision. So, Raelynn had waited until they left the palace before she questioned Laurier.
“We had a man to man talk, Raelynn,” Laurier replied, his eyes for once not meeting her. It was not because he was unwilling to look at her. No. He was more concentrated on the commotion that was taking place in the market place.
After leaving the palace, the couple had proceeded towards the market place. Although they knew it would not be easy to move past the crowd the place
Meanwhile, on the outskirts of kingdom Volar.Miranda sat alone as she took small bites of her lunch. She had ordered a cup of rice and some millet porridge as that was what she had seen her grandmother eat. She did not want to attract other people’s attention by ordering a hearty meal even though she was starving. It would make her look suspicious and that was the last thing she had in mind especially when she was close to her d
“Milady? Who are you talking about, Lady…?” The man left the sentence mid-way waiting for the girl to answer him. However, instead of answering him what he wanted, Miranda shook her head. “I apologize, kind Sir. I am not in a place to answer your questions, especially when I am suspicious about all people, including you until I meet the Lord. I hope you will understand the predicament I am in.” Miranda said with a helpless smile, hoping that the man would not give up on her just because she did not give him what he wanted. The man nodded at her, his eyes staring somewhere far behind her. He seemed to be lost in thoughts. ‘T
Eldrick and Minister Oakley arrived together at Fergus’s manor and the moment the people saw the Lord, they made way for him on impulse, unlike the way Raelynn and Laurier had to push their way forward through the mob. By now, the news of the merchant leader’s death had reached all ears and everybody was keen to find out what had happened. People swarmed to his place like bees making it burdensome for the guards. As soon as the people saw Eldrick, all the people bowed at him in respect. However, this time, the man did not even glance at the people like he usually did. His face had scrunched up and just by one glance, anybody could infer that the man was in a horrible mood. Provoking him at this time would only mean throwing themselves into the arms of danger.
Eldrick and Kolan left the room and went outside. Oakley was standing beside Raelynn and Laurier and they were involved in a deep discussion. Even the crowd seemed to be whispering among themselves as there were murmurs heard everywhere. As soon as they saw the Lord walk out, his expression solemn and cold, everybody shivered in their places. It had been
The ministers made their way to the palace one by one. It had only been a few hours since they had left the courtroom after Cathal’s departure that they had been summoned back by the Lord to deal with an important issue at hand. As to what that important issue was, everybody knew. Sir Fergus’s death was not a secret and given how the man was closely acquainted with Eldrick, the Lord was bound to deal with the issue himself. Although the ministers were not happy about being called twice on the same day, they could only follow the orders, especially when the matter was related to somebody’s death. Kolan and Oakley arrived together and they took their respective seats. Except Cathal, every other minister of the kingdom was present and waiting for the Lord.
“Yes, Milord. He is in the fourth person from the left in the fifth row. He is wearing a teal-colored coat.”The Lord did not turn backimmediately to see who Darcio was talking about. He nodded at the boy with a small smile. “Return to your chair and do not look at the ministers anymore. Also, after a few minutes, pretend as if you are bored and drift off to sleep.” Eldrick ordered and the boy agreed to do as he was told. The two returned to their chairs and faced the confused audience, once again. Only this time, the boy seemed to be disinterested in whatever was happening around him.
“Minister Erebus, have you lost your tongue, or can’t you recognize your own brooch?” As soon as Eldrick took his name, Erebus broke out into a cold sweat. His lips ran dry and his face paled. All eyes were fixed on him and he did not know how to face them, now that he had been called out in front of everyone. The Lord’s voice was exceptionally low and calm. And he knew that it was an ominous indication of the upcoming storm and destruction.Erebus tried to form coherent words but nothing came out of his mouth. It was as though his mouth refused to speak in this perilous and difficult situation. Eldrick watched him like a hawk, anger surging through his blood as time ticked by. But all he got was silence. “Minister Erebus, I asked you a question and I expect an answer from you.” He stressed and this time, hi
The priest sprinkled the holy water on Sir Fergus’s body while he chanted the hymns. Many people had gathered at the graveyard to give their respects to the man one last time. Even Raelynn and Laurier were present as they mourned the death of their trusted one. ‘I am sorry, dear friend.’ Eldrick’s eyes teared up seeing the man now lying in a coffin. His body had been cleaned thoroughly and he was clad in fresh clothes. The man’s body had lost its color and seeing him laying this way, made Eldrick to lose control. ‘I couldn’t protect you well and you had to bear the consequences of someone’s desires and cunning plot. I hope you will forgive me, dear friend.’The priest was done with his chants and he looked at the
