I knew it wasn’t answering his question outright, but I wasn’t wrong. I didn’t know him enough to know if I should be scared of him, did he want me to be?

He seemed content enough with my answer to let it be as we sat in silence for at least another hour. It was already dark, and my emotions were exhausting, darting back and forth between wanting him completely and wanting nothing to do with him. I knew Echo longed for her mate, she trusted that bond above all else, but I knew better than to blindly trust someone when the mate bond also left us vulnerable, and at risk for the most pain we’ve ever experienced, if it went badly.

 I tried to catch site of the moon above as we drove, hoping somehow for everything to turn out, for the Moon Goddess to guide me and help me be strong for whatever came my way once we reached our destination.
