CHAPTER 18: FORGIVENESS

She heard a voice that she never thought she would want to hear again. Alice silently turned and saw the woman who gave birth to her.

"It’s been a while. I thought you wouldn’t be able to recognize me." She wasn’t intending to sound bitter at all, but it came naturally as ever.

Her mother shakes her head, " Of course I would recognize you. All these years, I’ve never wanted anything but to find you. I… I’m really sorry."

Alice doesn’t know why she’d bother coming here again. And yet, she found herself coming with her mother inside the house to "talk".

"Do you want anything? Tea, coffee, anything. Do you still like cakes?" She was obviously panicking in an effort to keep Alice in.

"I hate anything sweet." She answered with a straight face. It was true, and she hated it for the exact reason that she loved it when she was younger. It reminds her of her mother, and she doesn’t want to.
