11. Surprise Test

After the very peaceful and prosperous breakfast with Asher Carter, I went to my first class Biology. Olivia and Isabella were there and they waved at me. I went and sat on the desk beside them.

"So you became friends with Aaron?" Olivia turned and asked me.

"Yeah.." I nodded.

"What did Ty say about it?" Isabella asked, bending a little forward from her chair to see my face.

"He didn't say anything. He is okay with it," I replied fishing out my books. They both looked at each other surprised.

"He is okay with it? He doesn't even like us talking to Aaron. That's why we don't actually talk to him," Olivia then said.

I placed the books on the table and fully turned to them. "Why are you guys bothered about what Ty might think if you talk to Aaron? If you like to talk to a person then you should. You don't need to care what others think."

"Yeah..er..that's right." Olivia nodded awkwardly. "So we heard you were running around in the ground with Aaron and the other footballers today..."

"Yeah that's right," I smiled. "Look at me. That's why I'm so sweaty. Ahh...I got exhausted running with the footballers. They've crazy speed."

"Oh...uhm.. yeah..you are so sweaty," Olivia let out a giggle and then turned around on her chair, whispering something to Isabella.

Anyway, soon the teacher Mrs. Connor arrived and started teaching about Phylum Hemichordates. I kinda like Biology. So I paid attention in class for some time. Then I started brainstorming about a cool and useful app to design.

The second hour was maths. As I walked to the class, I thought about whether I should sit with Aaron or Ty. Anyway, when I reached there, I ended up sitting with Ty in the middle row. Aaron was in the last row as usual.

Mr. Jacob came in soon after. "Surprise test on last chapter, differentiation," he announced and went to the board. His sudden announcement met a lot of shocking gasps and groans but that of course didn't encourage him to change his mind.

I saw Ty smiling and happily taking out his pens. So he is so confident. But do I know anything about differentiation? No. Oh, but why should I worry? I was not here when this lesson was taught. I'm not writing this test. I crossed my hands and leaned back on my chair as Mr. Jacob started writing questions one by one on the board.

Finally, Mr. Jacob finished writing ten questions and turned around, looking at the students who were staring at the questions in pure wonder. But anyway, Ty was already working on the second question.

"There are 10 questions and you've twenty minutes in hand. No copying. Once you're done you'll come to me and I'll correct your answers then and there," Mr. Jacob announced.

The students all nodded. Soon Mr. Jacob's gaze met mine. "Why aren't you writing? Should I especially tell you to begin?” he asked.

I uncrossed my hands and stood up. "New student, sir. I Wasn't there while you taught this lesson," I replied pointing at the board.

"I see. But you didn't learn this from your previous school?" he asked.

I looked at the board and frowned, shaking my head.

"I'm not gonna buy it, young lady. And even if you didn't learn it there, you should have asked someone and learned. Cause, we are starting integrations in the next class. How are you gonna understand anything if you don't know differentiation?"

I shrugged my shoulder. "Don't know. Guess I'd ask someone and start learning this," I pointed again at the weird-looking symbols on the board.

Mr. Jacob sighed. "Anyway attend the test now," he growled.

"But I...",

"Attend the test I said," he cut me off.

"Yes sir," I said and sat down cursing him in my mind.

I took a pen and tore a paper off my notebook before looking at nowhere but Ty's answer sheet. The first answer just had four steps and I successfully copied it down in a minute while Mr. Jacob was looking at others. Ty also kept on writing without minding me copying his answer.

But as I was about to look into his sheet for the second answer, Mr. Jacob averted his gaze in my direction and I started pretending to calculate with my fingers. I don't even know whether there's any need to calculate with fingers in differentiation.

When finally Mr. Jacob turned his gaze away from me, Ty turned the paper and started writing on the other side. Shit! He was writing the rest of a previous question so I decided to wait till he start the next question.

I sighed looking at the girl on my right who was constantly scribbling and crossing on her page. She glanced at me and raised her forefinger asking me for the answer to the first question. I moved my sheet closer to her and then turned my head to see what Aaron was doing in the back. He was there lying peacefully, resting his head on the desk. Oh, what a good time to take a nap.

But then something interesting happened. A girl who was sitting near Aaron tapped on his shoulder and passed him her paper. Woah! My mouth hung open. Aaron took the paper, rubbing his eyes. After looking at it for a second, he stretched it back to the girl. Oh, stupid boy!

But anyway the girl didn't take it back. She shook her head and motioned him with her chin to copy it down. Aaron then found me looking at him. "Want this?" he mouthed.

"Yeah, but you write first," I mouthed back. He already crumbled the paper and threw it to me. I successfully caught it, earning a few gasps and glares from the people who were sitting behind me including the paper's owner.

I grinned at everyone and unscrambled the paper before starting to copy it. There were answers of 1 to 4 on the paper. Thankfully no one bothered to tell Mr. Jacob about me copying. But I was confused why Aaron didn't copy it. Is he actually that much of an honest person? Or does he know these answers are wrong? If so he won't pass it to me, right?

Once I finished copying all the answers, I passed the paper to the girl near me. Also, I successfully got answers of 8 and 9 from Ty. I couldn't finish the last question because Ty then stood up and sprinted towards Mr. Jacob's table without waiting for me to complete it. Maybe he was so eager to finish the test before anyone else and get full marks.

Mr. Jacob corrected Ty's sheet and announced he got all the answers correct, just as expected. Ty came back to his seat with a happy smile after Mr. Jacob congratulated him.

I then stood up and went to Mr. Jacob's table. He glared at me as I stretched the sheet to him. "Why would I check Tyler's answers twice?" He asked and the whole class burst into laughter while I stood looking at the floor whilst rolling the answer sheet in my hands. It was kind of embarrassing although I go through this kind of shit on a regular basis.

"Now why are you standing here? Go back. And you better learn at least the basics of differentiation before the next class," Mr. Jacob said and dismissed me without further embarrassment.

Aaron didn't get up from his seat even after everyone got their answers corrected. At last Mr, Jacob asked him to bring his paper to him. Aaron huffed a sigh and stood up lazily before walking to him. He got a zero as he gave Mr. Jacob a plane paper. He mumbled a 'Thanks' at the big '0' Mr. Jacob drew on his paper. Everyone except me and Ty burst out laughing at that.

"Aaron!" Mr. Jacob shouted furiously. "How dare you not try solving even one question?"

"I didn't know any of that," Aaron replied blankly.

"Impossible! Didn't Asher tutor you?"

"No. He just came to my house and spend two hours inside my toilet as if there's no toilet in his home." The class burst into another fit of loud laughter

"What!" Mr. Jacob scoffed. "Let me have a word with Asher today."

"Yeah..ask him. I just told the truth," Aaron replied.

"Enough! Go and sit in your seat," Mr. Jacob sneered. Aaron nodded and walked back to his seat in the back while a lot of girls in the class smiled and giggled at him. However, Ty's expression was blank.
