Not fit for my world

Torak

" How do I look?" Lola said, making a pose.

I looked up from the magazine I was going through and my jaw dropped.

" Wow! You look different and sexy Lola." I complimented her and I saw a blush creep up her face. I smiled. She deserves it.

" Hm, Lola, I think we should get going, my old man doesn't have that much of a patience and I've kept him waiting for a long time. " I reminded myself.

" Yah, let's get going then" she stepped out of the makeup studio. While I handled the bill before joining her, I opened the door for her. When she was settled, I looked around us, trying to make sure we were not being followed.

" Who are you searching for?" She asked immediately. I sat down beside her.

" No one, just making sure we're not being followed. " I answered, signaling Caleb to hit the road.

" Followed? Why would anyone want to follow you, it's as if you are some celebrity or politician or some... " She trailed off, " I understand, you are probably checking out for some bad guys, you know like those business enemies you make during some transactions, you know those bad guys who will go all out just to have your head, do you understand what I'm trying to say?"

" Yah, Lola, I perfectly understood what business enemies mean, trust me." I said she looks cute when she's blabbing.

" Yeah, yeah, of course you should. You are a businessman. You are intelligent and smart, so you should know what business enemies mean.. I got it now. Wait a moment, am I blabbing? She asks, staring at me nervously.

" Yeah a little...or more than a little?" I replied, but I was enjoying her cute blabbing anyway.

She sighed, pressing her temples." You see, I talk a lot when I'm nervous, it's some kind of disease, an incurable one."I stared at her dumbfounded,is there a disease like that?. I don't understand why she was being agitated, nobody would dare hurt her without my permission, not even my father.

" What?" She suddenly asks.

" Huh?" I answered absent-mindedly.

" Why are you staring at me like that?" she asked, leaving me short of words.

" Hum, nothing, it's just.. I was just thinking." Came my reply and she looked away without noticing how uneasy I seemed to have become.

I kept staring at her, wondering why she was nervous when other girls would be ready to kill, for such an opportunity.

" If you keep staring at me like that you might build a hole in my head," I heard her say, and I immediately looked away embarrassed.

" Why are you agitated?" I blurted out before I realized I did, why am I this way? I never bother about my women's personal lives or what they're feeling. It's never my business, but why am I getting more and more interested in her? This was never the script I was supposed to follow, I was supposed to be distancing myself from her, not being attached to her. Where is your brain, Torak Donovan?

"Excuse me?" She said, confused and opening the ground for me to stop all this, but guess what, I was supposed to say never mind but instead I asked, staring at her" what's making you afraid?" She stared back at me for a while. I saw fear flicker in those brown eyes.

" I'm actually scared." She murmured.

" Scared?,of what?" I asked, looking around us. Nothing seemed to be out of place.

" Scared of being a failure, all my life I've never been good at anything." She laughed softly but I could see sheer pain beneath that laugh.

" Even when I'm good at it, I never seem to succeed whenever I give it a try, unlike my twin sister. My parents loved her so much that they forgot I existed. To them I'm a disgrace. So I left home." She looked away. " I left home at eighteen, with the hope that they would at least care to look for me, but no one cared. I started doing a part-time job to take care of myself and my studies, but I'm still not as good as Leah. I came back some months ago to pursue my music dream but here I'm still jobless and being played for a joke."

I felt really sorry for her so I pulled her into a hug, comforting her. I know she isn't faking it, her tears this time were real, unlike the show she put on earlier that evening to get away from her family. She cried without thinking of ruining her makeup. I held her face in my palm, focusing her gaze on mine." Lola, you're no failure. "I tried encouraging her but she chuckled nervously, " you're just saying that to make me stop crying." She said, pulling away.

"And is that working?" I asked.

" A little," she laughed. I smiled in return, but I turned serious at the next second. " I meant every word I said Lola, your time to shine is coming pretty soon, trust me. "

She flashed me an enchanting smile once more, wiping her eyes with her hands. It took me a lot of willpower to refine myself from reaching out and kissing those tears away. I can feel the pull getting stronger and if this continues I will be screwed for life.

" I guess I'll just have to believe you." Immediately she said that a big frown appeared on her face." I've ruined my makeup." She cried " Torak, your dad would probably think you beat and forced me into coming here. " I smiled. She's definitely a silly character. No wonder I couldn't be myself. She's a bad influence but it's a good kind of bad and I'm loving it. " No, my dad would think you were overridden with Joy to the point of tears after receiving his invitation" I joked and I watched her jaw drop at once." You are so bad" she murmured as I cheered silently knowing that her mood had been lightened. She smiled looking away as I admired her secretly. She's definitely a fighter unlike many girls I've seen willing to fight against the cruel destiny bestowed on her by her family. If it was the old me, I would probably be dating her by now or going all out just to gain her attention. She's my kind of woman, but not anymore. The light she's carrying is something my dark world won't welcome. She's better off with someone who will treasure her.

" Lola" I called, and she turned at once, giving me those brown inquisitive eyes.

" What?"

" Jeff doesn't know what he lost. "

" Huh? Why do you say.. " she wanted to ask, but I already climbed down the car as quickly as I could so she couldn't finish. I actually wanted to claim those juicy lips immediately. I said those words but, fortunately for me, Caleb stopped the car.

" Wait! Why are we.." she looked around open-mouthed.

" We're here? " I nodded and she turned pale, instantly muttering an" oh".

I wrapped my hand around her shoulder. She shivered. Clearly away. Concerned, I asked" are you cold?"

" No... I um.... You know goosebumps. I get them a lot when I get nervous" she answered, leaving me more confused than her. I regarded her intensely for a while. "You seem to have lots of illnesses when you are nervous?"

Confirming my suspicion she was lying to me. She looked away and answered me. " Yeah, you know blabbing, goosebumps and many more you're yet to see. Remember I told you they were incurable. "

I decided to play along. If she wasn't going to acknowledge the sparks between us, then it was no big deal, because I was also planning to do the same. She's too good to fit into my dark world, anyway. Having her around would be giving my enemies something to hit me with.

" Lola, you don't have to be nervous, it's gonna be just fine, I will make sure of that, trust me. " I squeezed her head softly and she eased up a bit.

Giving me a strained smile, she said" Let's do this."

" Yeah" I said, smiling like a teenager who is going on his first date. Let you know my plan of letting her go long forgotten. I hope my father won't make things difficult for me. Just when I grabbed her hand to lead her inside the family castle, my phone rang.

" Give me a second" I asked, and she nodded and I walked a few blocks away.

I retrieved my phone from my pocket only to find out it was Tasha calling

" What now?" I asked immediately. I answered the call. I heard her sigh before replying.

" I.. you see I kinda counseled the meeting, so I'm some miles away from your family estate. "

" W....what did you say? " I stammered.

" I will be there in two minutes darling. " She said, hanging up on me.

I stared at the phone and back at Lola. This is messy. How do I break the news and I can't possibly ask Tasha to leave when she's already there.

I walked up to Lola, reluctant to break the news. I mean she worked hard just to fit in and now all her preparation would go to waste.

" Lola, I don't know how to say this." I started staring everywhere but her. I couldn't bear to make her sad.

" Something came up?" She asked.

" Yeah, you see Tasha will be here in a minute. She was the one who called earlier and she's just miles away, but trust me, I will sort things out."

" If she's coming, then it's really good, which means we don't have to lie to anyone, right?" She said smiling, but I could see she was nervous.

" I guess I'm no longer needed then, Mr Torak. It's nice meeting you." She said, stretching out her hand, but instead of taking it, I flicked her forehead playfully.

" Who said you weren't needed, just that you wouldn't need to put on an act. Just be yourself, we're going in together." She stared at me confused.

" Let's get going Lola," I said and she took a step to catch up with me, but she stepped on the hem of her dress and was about to fall, but I was quick to get to her. I caught her before she fell to her death.

"Lola, you are really very clumsy." I said with a smirk, our faces just a few inches away from each other.

" Thanks Torak, but no thanks. After all, it's your fault, where were you running to, when you know I'm not comfortable with these shoes and can't catch up." She complained, pouting her lips. I laughed. My gaze rested on her lips,it was as if my eyes were glued to it before I knew it. I can't say who was actually leaning in because the pull was so strong. I was about to claim her lips when an angry voice distracted us." What's going on here?"
