Chapter 3 Captivating Beauty

Just as Jiang Liu hesitated and thought about how he should act, he saw the bride in her wedding gown, who was standing opposite him, proactively taking a few steps in his direction. She then lifted up her veil with one hand and kissed him lightly on his lips to everyone's astonishment...

The entire world seemed to have turned silent right after that.

Even Jiang Liu himself was caught completely unaware. What had just happened? How could he have been kissed by a woman like this?

He did not even have the time to savor the moment before the bride left his side; she behaved as though it was a task for her to complete.

She then covered her head with the veil again. Many people who were too slow to react failed to get a good look at her face.

Just like that, the entire debacle was concluded after many unexpected twists.

A maid from the Hua family lent her arm to the bride for support and led her into the makeup room to change out of her gown.

The bridegroom followed closely behind them but was stopped right before the entrance to the makeup room.

"Please hold it there, Sir."

"I need to speak to her," Jiang Liu said.

"Please wait for a moment. The Young Mistress is changing right now."

There was nothing Jiang Liu could do but wait.

After about five minutes, the door of the makeup room opened. "Please step inside."

Jiang Liu strode in and realized that he was in a spacious suite.

At this very moment, he noticed the calm and sharp bride, who had proved to be extremely helpful earlier on.

She had already changed out of her white wedding gown into a simple yet elegant red formal dress.

She was sitting pristinely in front of the dresser, and he could only see the side of her face from where he was standing.

Before he could move closer, the lithe young woman spoke up. "Thank you for today."

"Ha... Are you only going to show your appreciation just like this? I seemed to have done you a very big favor."

Jiang Liu was right. If he had not interfered, the Huas would definitely have become the laughing stock of the entire city.

Even though the Hua Clan had fallen on hard times and lost some of its luster as a member of the Four Great Families...

...it was still important to prevent others from trampling all over them...

In this aspect, Jiang Liu had indeed done her a very big favor.

"I understand. Later on, I'll have a very expensive gift delivered to your residence as thanks for helping me out of this predicament, Young Master Jiang. I'll keep your kindness close to my heart, and I'll return the favor without any hesitation in the future, should you ever require my help. What do you think of that, young master?"

Hua Sheng's voice was very pleasant, especially when she spoke for longer periods of time.

"She doesn't act up and isn't pretentious. In fact, I can vaguely sense that she's an innately prideful person..."

What intrigued Jiang Liu the most, however, was the genteel speech of the Hua's Fifth Young Mistress. It made her sound like the young daughter of an ancient reputable family, and her choice of words was rarely seen in this time and age.

This caused him to become excited. "Oh? What about us then? Has all the trouble we've gone through tonight been for nothing then? Don't forget that we just swore to remain by each other's side for the rest of our lives in front of thousands of guests during the wedding banquet."

"I had no choice under such urgent circumstances. You're smarter than normal people and should know that what we went through tonight was a symbolic marriage without any legal binding at all. After things have calmed down, we will apply for a divorce; we'll even mention that my weird behavior is unbecoming for the wife of the young master of the Jiangs. It'll not damage your reputation in any way. What do you think?"

Jiang Liu felt his emotions stir a little every time she said "What do you think?"...

It was a strange feeling. Furthermore, by observing her side profile at such a close distance, he could sense that the young lady was extremely beautiful. Even though Jiang Liu was never really that into looks, somehow he was fixated on this premonition.

He raised his hand to interrupt her. "Damage my reputation? Can you shoulder the responsibility of having me earn the reputation as a divorced man at such a young age then?" he asked jokingly.

"I've already said that I will compensate you with a suitably expensive gift, Young Master Jiang. I'll not go back on my word," she said, sounding a little cold.

"Oh? Do you think... that my family is in need of money, then?" Jiang Liu replied mischievously in a low voice.
