Chapter Three

The school had managed to go by quicker than I thought it would.

Before I knew it, the weekend was here.

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY, HONEY!" My mother woke me from my joyous dream.

I reached for my phone to check the time. 7:45am?

"You couldn't have waited until at least ten-thirty to wake me up?" I groaned, tossing the plush blankets back over my head.

"Fine, then I will eat this vanilla frosted lemon cake myself."

"I'm up, I'm up." I popped up; my hands rubbing vigorously over my eyes.

"Come down, I made breakfast."

"Okay." I quickly slipped on a pair of shorts and a top, picked up my phone, and made my way down the stairs.

The idea of my mom making me her famous breakfast always put a smile on my face. Her famous cheese eggs, pancakes topped with a fruit syrup, and maple syrup bacon.

The scent took me by surprise once I walked into the kitchen.

"Mmmmm." I groaned; droll nearly slipping through my lips.

Anxious to eat, I pulled a chair from the kitchen island and took a seat across from my mom. I looked down at my phone. Vibrating across the kitchen marble, I picked it up to answer.

"Hello."

"Heeeeey, what are you doing?" Keira's questioned eagerly.

"About to eat breakfast." I glanced down at the plate that was placed in front of me.

"Well hurry up, I'll be there in an hour to get you."

"What? Where are we going?"

"To the mall, we have to get you an outfit for tonight." She said, sounding more enthusiastic than I did.

"Well okay I guess." I shrugged.

"Why do you not sound excited?" She questioned me.

"Well I'm not a huge fan of shopping."

"Well that's what you have me here for. To shop for you. Now hurry your ass up."

"Okay, okay bye." I said dryly.

"Bye."

I hated shopping for some reason. Most girls my age enjoyed that kind of thing but I really didn't. I was the girl who gets in, grabbed it, and got out. However I had a feeling that with Keira, that wasn't the plan.

"Mom I'm going shopping with Keira." I said.

Finishing off my food, I slipped my plate in to the sink.

"Okay, have fun. I have to run to the office anyway." She informed me as she reached for her phone that was ringing before she answered it.

I closed the door.

With my things in hand, I rushed off of the porch and down to the sidewalk where Keira waited inside of her car.

"Hey?" I waved.

"Took you long enough slow ass." She yelled through the open window.

"Oh shut up, let's go." I rolled my eyes as I took a seat in the passenger seat…

The small mall was only a good fifteen minutes away so it was a fairly short ride.

Once inside, we managed to hit almost every store Keira thought we would find something. Clothing stores. Shoe stores. Accessories stores. Stores that housed perfumes and fragrances that smelled quite good.

Sadly, I still could not find an outfit I thought was cute and also comfortable.

"How about this dress?" I asked as I held up a burgundy colored ruffle dress.

"Oh hell no." Keira had no problem with expressing her distaste for things she did not like.

"What? It's cute."

"Yeah for my mom, put it the hell down.” She searched the rake. “Now this is hot."

She held up a black knee length dress. It was a cute piece with a stretch material that would definitely enhance the curves. It was sleeveless with a low neck line.

“Maybe not.” I looked away to continue my search.

"What the hell is your problem?"

"What do you mean?" I had I feeling I knew what she meant.

"You're practically denying every cute dress I hand you."

"I just don't think it would look good on me."

"Seriously?” She questioned. "You have great body. You have the hips, the thighs, the slim waist.......and the tits."

She reached to cup my breast.,

I couldn't help but laugh at her stupid gesture.

"At least try it on for me. Please." she begged.

“Don’t beg.” I snatched the dress from her hands. “I’ll try it on.”

I walked into the dressing room to try on the dress.

I looked at my reflection. The dress was breathtaking. Literally. I could barely breathe due to it being quite tight on me.

I prepared myself for Keira's reaction and stepped out of the dressing room.

"Sooo what do you think?"

"Yes! Please get this dress." she begged me as her eyes wandered over the dress.

"I don't know." I bit down on my lip as I looked at myself in the mirror once again.

"Look, try something different. It's your eighteenth birthday, go all out."

"Okay, okay." I whined, wondering if she may be right. I was eighteen now. A moment most of us cannot wait for. “I will get it.”

"Yayy, but let's get it in white."

"White? What? Why." I questioned her decision for that color choice.

"Please, I'm so tired of seeing you in dark colors. You're going to stand out tonight." She explained. Poking out her lips, she began to pout. What made it worse were her widened, full sparkly eyes.

"Fine." I mentally cursed her. "Does that dumb ass puppy face work on your boyfriend?"

"Actually it do-"

Before she could even finish her statement, her phone began to ring.

"Hello" She put on her sweetest voice. "Oh relax, I wasn't even gone that long."

I never had a chance to meet her boyfriend however he always seemed to call her when she was out for more than an hour or two.

"I'll be home soon cry baby. I’m leaving as we speak." She informed him before she ended the phone call. “Okay, now let’s go find some shoes for that dress.”

"I thought we were leaving.”

"Oh he will be okay. He's just a little over protective. It's in his nature, it's a..... It’s a guy thing." she quickly said. "Okay, now let's get them shoes."

We wandered into a few other stores. We picked up some shoes, make-up, and accessories before we left the mall and hopped back in to her car to head back home…

"I'll be back to pick you up around nine tonight, cool?" She confirmed to me.

"Okay, cool."

"And Aniyah, make sure your slow ass is ready this time." She shot me one more menacing look before she sped off…
