Chapter 12

I stared between Hunt and Nicole, waiting for Hunter to correct her but he didn't. He only grinned and stretched his hands out to her. We have a lot to talk about.

"You know her honey?" I ask with a side grin and clenched teeth.

"Nicole is a good friend" he smiled at the blonde and I blinked. Is this a game? How did he know Nicole and they seem to be so much good friends.

A plump lady came out from the Rivera mansion with a worried expression on her face.

"Ma'am....Autumn won't have lunch" she said with full concern. I held my hands up to say something but Hunt pulled me away.

"See you around" he told Nicole before leading us back into the mansion. I found the nearest chair and sat down burying my face in my palms.

"Tiff. Are you alright?" Hunter asked kneeling in front of me.

"Why call me Tiff when you know who I am?"

He smiled. "I guess I'm just used to it"

"I'm fine" I wiped a lone tear from my cheek. I don't even know why I'm crying but hearing the housekeeper say Autumn won't eat, that made me hurt. Is she starving herself? She doesn't have that usual glow in her face anymore.

"Autumn would be fine. The Riveras love her so they won't harm her" Hunt assured me. is that even his real name?

"You don't know that"

"I do" he reached to wipe the tears on my cheek.

"And what was the meaning of that back there? Are you faking your identity too or what?"

Hunter shifted his weight from one foot to the other before deciding he needed to seat down .

"My name is not Hunter, Elaine"

"I figured" I clenched my fist together. "Your Lucas Grayson! How didn't I even think of that" I sighed getting up moving around.

"Elaine...."

"Ash said she knew you for two weeks when she told me about you and then the new owner of the bar is Lucas Grayson and you bought the bar four weeks ago" the conversation with Ash after she introduced me to Griffin came running back to mind.

I was just too stupid to think about anything. While he was busy gathering information about me, I was just being clueless.

Hunter got up too and walked to me gripping my hands in his. I pulled away and he frowned. Hunter actually frowned. I don't think I've seen him frown.

"I don't understand why your mad at me?" He voiced out.

"You Lied to me. "

"Your working with a fake identity too Elaine" he said. His tone matching mine. I stared at him with fury.

"Don't you dare turn the tables on me" he's right though. "I'm doing what I have to do for my daughter. You!. why are you helping me?"

I chuckled without humor when I noticed one detail I haven't pointed out and so I did.

"Your even a cop!" I walked to the kitchen to pour myself a glass of water. This heat will be the death of me . Hunter followed behind.

"What does it matter?" He asked and I shake my head in sarcasm.

"Nothing. I'm just a big joke to you. When you figure out all the information you need, you'll go ratting out to the police!" I yelled. I could feel steam letting off the top of my head but when Hunter pressed his lips in a thin line and walked away, I knew I said the wrong thing just now.

"Hunt!"

He didn't even reply me until he was at the top of the stairs. "Ash called to check on you a while ago" he said and walked away. I slumped to the floor as I cried. There goes my one chance of getting my daughter? What was I thinking? Who cares even if he was using a fake identity?

It's not even fake. He's Lucas Grayson, a billionaire and cop and would be able to help me solve all these in just few weeks.

My phone vibrated and I checked it to see a message from Ash.

Hey girl. call me

I wiped my tears with my gown before dialing Ash number. Her cheering voice made me smile.

"It's just some hours and I miss you already" she sing sang

"Me too" I sniffed. .

"Are you crying? Does Hunt already want a divorce?" She joked and I chuckled. Actually, I think it's me that just signed the paper first.

"No Ash" I told her everything right from when I met Autumn up to when Hunt walked away from me.

"Oh shit! This is bad" she cooed.

"I know. I didn't mean the things I said. I was just upset and insecure" I picked at the bottom of my dress with my nails.

"Tell him your sorry. Hunter is a nice man, he'll understand" Ash said. I'm glad I'm even hearing her voice right now.

"What if he hates me"

Ash busted into a fit of laughter.

"Hunt? Hate you? Never!.....girl, just tell him your sorry"

"Ok. I will"

"Good and make sure to call me often. Don't let married life get into your head" Ash joked again, lightening the mood. I smiled.

"Sure. Bye now"

"Bye love" as I cut the call, I sighed. How should I do this? I hurried to the kitchen checking the cabinets, I was able to put some few things together making cheesecake. Perhaps a little peace offering could help me out.

I strolled to the room Hunt occupies and knocked on the door. His voice boomed from the other side.

"Come in!"

I opened the door slightly and walked inside and into a similar room to mine. Only, his own balcony was overlooking the pool area.

Hunter was seating on his bed, laptop on his legs and his eyes followed me as I walked up to him and placed the cheesecake in front of him.

"I made this for you"

He stared at the plate then at me. "We just had lunch"

Shit!

"I um.... thought you needed it" I said rubbing behind my neck. Hunter just stared at me in amusement. The idiot is enjoying my little show of nervousness.

"Leave it then" he said easing my discomfort. I nodded.

He went back to typing whatever he was typing on his laptop.

"Hunt?"

"Yes?"

"I'm sorry about earlier. I shouldn't have said those things. I was just insecure"

Hunter shook his head. "I've known a lot about you in just two weeks and you thought I'll just betray you like that?"

I wanted to speak up but he held his hands up. Silencing me.

"Now if you just shut up for a second, you'll realise I'm trying to get us to the charity ball coming up"

I stared at him with full grin. "I thought your mad at me"

"I could never" he smiled that boyish smile of his. One I've missed under the few minutes since he walked away from me. I flung my arms round his neck.

"Thank you so much"

"It's nothing" he smiled. A green envelop blinked on the screen drawing our attention. I sat next to Hunt on the bed. He clicked on the envelope and grinned.

"Now all we need, is for you to get a dress"
