Chapter Seventeen

I shove the door out of my way and skip up onto the sidewalk. Eli grabbed my hand when he came to my side. His eyes were pouring out love but his lips turned up in a grimace. I shoved his shoulder, making his eyes roll and a grin replace the scowl. We strolled towards the small family. She perked up at the sound of our footsteps. She bowed and raised her cup of loose change. 

"P-please." She crocked out, her voice broken and hoarse. My heart sank at the sight.
