Chapter 6

                                 Misty

I get out of bed and leave the room hearing the sound of Brice little giggles coming from downstairs. I head downstairs going into the kitchen and frown when I see Brandon quickly put something behind his back, and a smiling Brice sitting on the countertop in front of Brandon licking crumbs from his hand.

"Brandon." I glare over at him, knowing he's up to no good.

"What? I'm making him breakfast." He reaches out and wipes crumbs from Brice's cheeks.

I glare at him as I walk over and pull his hand from behind his back seeing the pack of cookies in his hand.

"Cookies isn't breakfast." I give him another glare taking the pack of cookies from him and take them over putting them back into the cabinet. Every chance he gets he's sneaking junk to Brice no matter if its for breakfast or a late-night snack.

"Coo..kie" Brice says clapping his little hands together, smiling, wanting more cookies.

"Sorry little man, mommy's a party pooper," Brandon tells Brice as he grabs a wet rag and starts to clean the crumbs from Brice's hands and face.

"Mommy is going to be more than a party pooper if I catch the two of you with cookies early in the morning again." I give Brandon a glare as I walk back over to him and poke him in the side with an elongated claw causing him to flinch away with a smirk.

"Coo..kie" Brice says again looking over at the cupboard that I put the pack of cookies inside.

"No more cookies for you." I give Brice a playful growl as I pick him up from the countertop sitting him in his highchair before going over to the refrigerator to get started with cooking breakfast.

"Have you been downtown to the factory already?" I ask seeing Brandon unbuttoning a few of the buttons at the top of his shirt to loosen up a bit. I felt him get out of bed about two hours ago. I didn't expect for him to be back so soon.

"Yeah, I just needed to go look over some paperwork." He tells me as I get the eggs and other things out to cook breakfast. "A young beta male came by the factory looking for a job today." He says.

"And?" I ask frowning wondering if I should be worried that wolves are attempting to cause us trouble.

"I gave him a job." He says with a shrug.

My frown deepens hearing that Brandon gave that male a job and that the male accepted a job from Brandon. Brandon isn't a bad guy, but that mark on Brandon's face is the only thing wolves see and will want to be nowhere near Brandon, so why would this male be okay with working for Brandon. "I don't think that's a good idea?" I don't think Brandon should be trusting wolves anywhere near him, seeing that they'll never trust him to be near them.

"There's nothing to worry about. He's not looking to cause trouble. He's just young rogue whos trying to make some money." He says sounding sure about this male.

"How can you be so sure? This male could be lying." I just want to keep my family safe and trusting strange wolves isn't the smartest thing for Brandon to be doing with carrying that mark as a dishonorable male.

He let out a sigh, leaning back against the countertop. "I've done a lot of lying and deceiving people. It's not hard for me to spot a lie when I hear one now. He's not lying about wanting to make money and not cause trouble for me." His jaws clench down, bringing the guilt that he's holding inside to the surface as he speaks about himself lying and deceiving the people around him in the past.

Seeing the guilt of all the lies he told to cover up killing his brother mate comes to the surface, I want to go over and comfort him and tell him that he's not that male anymore. But I know me trying to tell him differently will only bring the guilt he's holding inside out more. I force myself to stay where I'm at to let the moment of guilt he's feeling pass.

"If you're sure about that male, then I trust your decision." I walk over to the stove and start with cooking breakfast. I trust Brandon, so if he says that that male isn't lying to cause trouble then I have nothing to worry about.
