Chapter One

This is in third person's pov

"Open your eyes." Lara urged and shook her friend who was sleeping in the bus beside her.

Wunmi opened her eyes slowly and eased herself on the seat. "Are we there?" She asked as she rubbed her eyes.

"No, it's after this bus stop." Lara replied.

"Why did you wake me up then?"

"There's something on my mind and I need you to give me answers." Lara said, looking serious than ever.

"What?" Wunmi furrowed her brows, she was confused at her friend’s attitude.

"I-"

"School Bus stop." The bus conductor called, cutting Lara off.

"When we get to the hostel then." Lara said as they came out of the bus. They walked to the street junction where they took a bike to their hostel and got home.

Wunmi dropped all her things on the bed and took out her laptop. She opened and searched on the internet for jobs sites.

"That's it!” Lara yelled by mistake, she hadn’t intended to shout.

"What?!" Wunmi almost jumped, she looked around thinking something harmful was around her.

"I’m sorry for yelling, I didn’t intend to yell but you haven't told me what you've been looking for on the internet these days and mostly job finding sites." Lara sat beside her, rubbing her back to calm her down.

"Oh that's it? Actually I'm looking for a job." Wunmi smiled and faced her computer.

"Job? Why would you be looking for a job? You're on scholarship for goodness sake and almost everything is being paid for."

Wunmi sighed as she faced her friend. "It's not for me, my school fees has been paid but Tunde's own hasn't been paid. He's been trying to find some money but it hasn't been easy, his little work isn't paying very well and I don't want him to do anything wrong as you know these university boys, I also don’t want him to borrow money.” She paused to face her laptop again. “Sothat's why I decide to help him since the only person we have is our Aunty in Ogun State who is still struggling with her three young kids, she wouldn't be able to help out as much as she would want to. If I could get a part-time job for the few remaining months before our convocation, it would help, also with his own part-time work."

Lara listened and frowned at her at the same time."I can’t believe all these is happening yet, you couldn't tell me and you claim you trust me a lot, you claim I’m your best friend! Tunde is also my brother for your information, I see him as a brother just as much as I see you as a sister.” She shook her head. “I'm really annoyed with you, I don't even know why I'm still talking to you. She stormed out of the room.

"Lara!" Wunmi called but she didn't answer.

When she noticed Lara wasn’t around the house, she got up and went outside where she saw Lara opposite the building buying something from a shop. Wunmi went back inside as she knew Lara won't stay mad at her for long.

Lara came inside the room, the frown on her face not leaving, Wunmi got up and went to meet her. "Lara baby, I'm sorry.” She pouted.

I didn't want you to worry,I thought I'll find a job then tell you about it when I do, please forgive my silly soul, I’m really sorry."

Wunmi watched as Lara’s frown turned into a smile slowly. "It is not your fault now, when you know I can't stay mad at you for so long. Don’t worry, I’ll start learning how to stay angry with you for at least a month."

Wunmi smiled at her and hugged her. "Sorry now, I'll prepare your favourite

food, you know that one with water leaf and plenty pepper."

Lara looked at her, smirking. "You think I wanted to prepare food, you're the one cooking today and please add pepper very well."

"I know!" Wunmi laughed and went to the kitchen to prepare Lara’s favourite food, Beans and Plantain. She came back to the room and saw Lara on the bed with her laptop. “What are you doing?”

Lara gestured for Wunmi to sit beside her. "Congratulations."

Wunmi raised her eye brows. "For what? Did I finally win the Wattys?"

"What is Wattys?” Lara chuckled. “You've got a job now."

"What job? How? I don’t get you.”

"When you went to the kitchen, I called Uncle Kayode and told him about you, he said he wants a secretary for his deputy." Lara said.

"Seriously?" Wunmi asked in a shaky voice, her mouth threatening to shout but she held back. “Are you serious?”

"Yes baby."

"What about school?" Wunmi asked as she remembered they were stll n school.

"What are you still doing in school?, you've submitted your project, all that we're waiting for is our results which I'm sure, I know you'll be graduating with honors." Lara replied, smiling.

Wunmi grinned widely and hugged her tight. "Thank you very very much Lara. I”m really grateful. To be honest, I never expected this much.”

“You’re chok-- Let me- Wunmi!”

Wunmi smiled and let her free. “Sorry. I’m just so happy. Thanks a lot Lara.”

"You're welcome, What are friends for?”

"When will I start?"

"Whenever you're ready." Lara said.

"I could start tomorrow or the day after, I would start on Wednesday." Wunmi said, still grinning. “I need to prepare, what would I get, how would I dress?” She looked at her friend.

"Now what we need to do is to shop for Wednesday!" Lara danced playfully on the bed.

"Shop?" Wunmi furrowed her brows. “Why? How?”

"Yes?"

"You know the scholarship board doesn't pay for shopping expenses." Wunmi laughed.

"Who's talking about scholarship money, we're going shopping tomorrow, bill's on me." Lara laughed with her.

"Okay, I surrender." She raised her hands as a sign of surrendering. “But Lara, I really didn’t expect this, I’m so grateful.”

Lara frowned at her. “What is wrong with you now? Can’t I help you again?”

“Okay okay, Sorry.” Wunmi smiled.

Lara sniffed the air as she smelt something burning."Wunmi, the food!" Lara reminded her.

"Ha!" Wunmi shouted and ran to the kitchen.
