Memories

Jessica’s nightmare

I was running for my life. The cold was so thick that I could feel it stabbing though me. Whoever was chasing me was coming closer. Its stench stung my senses with fear and all I could do was run as fast and as far as my eyes could see. I was terrified that if that thing would grab me it will kill me for sure.

I knew it was a ruthless vampire on my trail and still today, I wonder if they really exist. Well, this chasing is strengthening my belief that they do exist. Suddenly I feel my legs failing me, and the next thing I knew I was on the ground with that thing all over me. The soil was so cold underneath me that I began to tremble. He was drooling with his fangs out. In vain, I was trying to keep him away from me. He was much stronger. In the end, all my powers left me and I surrendered to that horror. Closing my eyes with no use screaming, as nobody would hear me, I felt that pain, that excruciating pain when his fangs went through my skin in my throat.

I let out a scream in my intent to get away from him but I did not even budge from under his massive body.  In my desperation and with my very last powers I started to beg.

-          Please, don’t hurt me!

With my eyes shut and praying for my life, I felt my consciousness fade away little by little. I was dying. Suddenly it was as if another person came and pushed that beast far from me. I could not tell if this was really happening or if this person was there to help me or finish the job that the other one started. I was fighting to stay alive and to stay conscious so I couldn’t figure out the face of my savior or my executioner.

-          Please…

I just wanted to beg him to spare me. Only a few more seconds and I felt myself as leaving this world. I still don’t know if I felt a pair of strong hands carrying me. Even today, I wonder if I should be dead. The person, who carried me, if he really did so, had a strong body, as made of steel. As I had, no strength to go on with, I laid my head against him, taking inside me the aroma of my savior, musk and tobacco.

Somehow I knew this whole ordeal ended…

Jessica’s story

I woke up so frightened that at this point I could not tell the difference between this nightmare and my reality. I was sweating and my breathing was heavy. I tried to calm myself. I got out of bed and went to the kitchen. I figured a glass of warm milk would make me feel better. I was right I was beginning to see the good part in this situation, that it was only a dream.

My wall clock indicated 3 AM. It was going to be a long night. Tossing and turning made me feel so tired in the morning. And now I have to go to work. While I was preparing my phone rang, it was Stephanie, my best friend, the kind of friend that had been there through my toughest moments of my life. I owe her big time.

When I was down she helped me get a place to stay, a little cozy condo outside London. And after a few more weeks she talked to the manager of one of the most luxurious restaurants in the area, to hire me. She worked there as well. From the lonely desperate girl I had been almost a year ago now I am confident, on my two feet and with a best friend who would do anything for my wellbeing. And the feeling is mutual.

With all I had to struggle is with my nightmares not knowing if they really happened or if they were just that, nightmares. Last week something bizarre took place at my job. Paul, the manager is a ruthless man leading the restaurant after his own rules. He always says that his tyranny brought it where it was, among the most respectable places to eat in the whole London. I had a different point of view regarding this so one day he shouted so hard at me that my rage exceeded my human limits. With one scream I broke all the glasses in the bar.

-          What a hell…

-          I am so sorry sir I just don’t know what happened…

-

Get out of here!

-          But Mr. Smith…

-          Out, I said!

With my last breath I turned my worried gaze to Stephanie as I was waiting for her to say something. I knew that she couldn’t. Paul Smith was a tyrant that could get her fired too. I decided to just blink one time making her understand that there was nothing she could do and to stay quiet. And that was precisely what she did.

I stepped outside leaving my things in the restaurant. Paul was right, what the hell happened there? I got so angry that I broke all the glasses. Supernatural does not exist. Or does it?

I spent my entire afternoon walking and thinking in the nearby park. The weather was chilly and I literary had my heart in my throat. It was getting darker by the minute. I had to get home before something bad happens.

I hurried my steps towards the entrance of the park praying I would get there unharmed. It was like I’ve been reliving my dream. Suddenly I was not alone anymore. Tucking my chin into my collar as if I was trying to protect myself, I tried to recover my breathing. A noise reached me through the cold wind. I felt my heart pounding in my chest beginning to race like crazy. And I began to run as fast as I could. As I turned a little to look over my shoulder, frightened and tired of the running, I let myself in the hands of the destiny. I was afraid but also I sensed a mixture of anger and adrenaline never felt before. It was like all my senses were paralyzed but in front of this terror something is helping me stay together.
