Him again

Jessica’s story

That was odd. No company name, no qualifications required. What kind of firm was that? I choose to ignore the job announcement and search for something else, less strange. But there was none. Only jobs that I was not qualified for. Maybe I should give them a chance after all. Only two rings and I hang up. What am I doing? I don’t know anything about this company. What if is a trap? What if Coral was right and I am in danger? I was getting paranoid. Suddenly I dragged my heavy body to the window. You can see a little park from it. During the day it was a delight for the eyes but at night everything changes. The trees seem to come to life and you could swear you see human figures hiding in sight. It was really creepy. It was not the same park I killed that vampire but it was as spooky as that one. I don’t really know if my eyes were playing tricks on me but there was someone out there, among the trees. I did not linger at the window and withdrawn myself into the safety of my apartment, or at least I thought it was safe.

I was almost asleep when the most frightening thing happened. A dark shadow had invaded my room. I could not move or speak. I wanted to scream but it was as if something paralyzed me leaving me motionless. Only my eyes were open and they witnessed the horror of being almost erased from the face of the Earth. The dim light of the moon was trying to get past the curtains and that made impossible for me to see who wanted to kill me…again.

I don’t really know for how long have I been petrified with fear or if I screamed for help but suddenly my window opened wide and a too familiar figure came through it. That voice was rough and bold, as if commanding and again I felt the aroma of musk and tobacco.

-          Get of her! Pick someone of your own size!

With only one move the man on my window moved so damn quickly that I barely managed to breathe once. In his high speed he grabbed the shadow that was on top of me and they both disappeared into the darkness. I remained alone and able to move. My fear was passing so I jumped out of bed right to see outside. My savior was long gone. But like I was saying something way to familiar about him did not give me peace.

Just in that precise moment I remembered Coral’s words „your dream is not really a dream!” She was right. What I had just experienced it seemed exactly the way I dreamt. Only this time was for real. I felt the urge to speak with someone so I grabbed my phone. A sleepy voice greeted me.

-          Hello? This is Steph…

-          I know, it’s me Jess

-          Jess? What time it is?

-          Time to see Coral again!

-          What? Are you ok?

-          I was attacked Steph!

-          Say that again? Are you all right?

-          I am fine. I am just scared.

-          Oh, let me grab some clothes and I will be right over.

With that she hung up the phone. Until she came a million thoughts went through my mind. Who could be the man who saved me? And most importantly who wanted me dead? Only ten minutes and I heard a pair of brakes. Stephanie was finally here. Although I know she was the one who knocked I jumped in fear. One worried friend was framing my entrance when I opened it.

-          God Jess, are you ok?

-          Not really, come on in!

After she got inside as a precaution I look around the nearby park. Nobody was there.  Because she saw the horror in my eyes she could not help wondering.

-          What happened to you, Jess? And why do you want to see Coral again?

-          Do you remember her last words?

-          That your dream is not really a dream?

-          Those exactly. Maybe you think I am being paranoid but she was right.

-          I was the one who took you to see her, remember? What do you mean she was right?

-          Well, when I got home I took a calming bath and decided to have some rest. I looked a little outside in the nearby park, and someone was there, I swear to you…

-          I believe you Jess…and what happened?

-          I never took it as a threat so I closed the curtains left the window open. Last thing I recall a huge shadow with sharp teeth was on top of me trying to kill me. I had no air and I could not move.

I was already hyperventilating trying to stay as calm as I could. Knowing that I have those powers but tonight they failed to appear made me wonder. It was enough that Stephanie was warring about me, now I was sure she was terrified too just by looking into my eyes.

-          Oh my God. How did you get away? What about your powers, why didn’t they work?

-

Someone else saved me. As for my powers they were like…gone. I couldn’t do anything regardless of how angry I was.

-          Someone else? What do you mean? Who?

-          That is the second thing I don’t know. A tall well build man grabbed that thing and disappeared into the darkness of the night. He was moving so fast, you should have seen him.

-

Vampire like fast?

-          What are you implying? That a vampire saved me? They want me dead!

-          Maybe not all of them. Think about it. If Coral is right and your dream is not really a dream then maybe this well build tall man had already saved you in the past.

This realization hit me like a hammer at the back of my head. I was trying to stay focused on what Stephanie was saying but it was just too much to cope with. If this man just saved me twice than maybe I do have an ally.
