ZION
Who would of expected that I, Zion Collins, would get laid on the first day in a new school. It didn't even take me that long. It was a new record for me. I'd admit, it was unconventional and pretty risky to do it behind the bleaches but it worked out just fine. That Megan girl got what she wanted and I got what I wanted.
Everything about that school seemed to be dull and boring like every other except this one had many more promiscuous girls than the other schools I had the displeasure of attending.
One girl, however, had a different energy to her. She was unlike anything I had ever encountered. She was different from every mortal I encountered. I had the same effect on her as I did with everyone else but there was just something about her. I couldn't put my finger on it.
She was strikingly beautiful, entrancing me the moment my eyes met her greyish orbs. Her luscious, dark hair curled and cascaded down her back and shoulders, hiding her heart shaped face away as if she didn't want to be seen. She had well sculptured cheekbones, sharp and high. Her full lips were the most delicate thing I had ever laid my eyes on and her slender figure which she covered up with too much clothing.
Just by a simple evaluation of her looks I could tell she was nothing like I had seen or encountered before. I could feel the amount of warmth and goodness she radiated off her. It wasn't as strong as the amount my mother radiated but it was there nonetheless.
The angel in me made me a pretty good judge of character. An angel could sense how much a mortal sinned according to the amount of light omitted off them. Light energy is heat and therefore the more good you do the stronger the heat that radiates of you. But only an angel could sense that. To mortals, all humans had the same body heat and if your temperature was too high then you were usually running a fever.
It was one of the reasons I was always cold. The amount of sins on my list just kept piling up which encouraged the demon in me. I refrained from my mother's touch because the heat she radiated was too much for me to bare and yet when Alina Hart was close to me I actually felt comfortable. There was something about her and what ever it was I would make it my duty to find out. I needed to know why I, for the first time, was attracted to a mere mortal.
"How was your first day?" My beautiful mother asked as she barged into my room, gushing like a school girl. She was full of energy, her skin a tanned colour and her chocolate brown locks curled to her shoulders.
Oh my sweet, sweet mother!
I found her excitement a bit too amusing as a laughter rumbled out of me which caused my mother to pull her face and pout. She looked so adorable when used that face. It was her way of getting dad and I to do things for her.
"It was all good mum. Why are you out of bed? You should be resting," I chastised, recalling the incidents that didn't happen not to long ago. My mother might have been a doctor and an angel that took care of other people but she never took care of herself.
She swatted my arm lightly, "You worry too much about me, " she then paused at her gaze dipped to my folded arms that were underneath my head, "You're getting pretty buff," she grinned as she tried to squeeze my biceps.
Shifting my position on my bed and perching myself up on my elbows, I cheekily grinned, "Your son is a growing boy."
My teasing earned me a playful glare as my mother began to ruffle my already disheveled hair, "Have you done your homework?" She asked in an authoritative tone. It amazed me at how she could switch from playful to motherly so quickly.
I sheepishly grinned, "Of course I have mom." The day I did my homework would probably be the day the world came to an end. I found no need to do homework since most of the sections I would be learning this year I learnt about three years ago. My brain computed knowledge at a fast rate. I was practically learning varsity level math at home.
"You of all people should know better than to lie to me Zion!" my mother gave me a less than impressed look, shaking her head as she knew I was up to my old antics yet again.
I was about to reply to my mother when my father showed up at the doorway with an excited expression covering his face. It was very rare that my father showed his excitement so when he did it was something worth paying attention too. Matter of fact, it was rare to see my father smile. My mother was the only one who got to see him smile everyday whereas I caught a glimpse of his smile at most three time in my entire seventeen years of existence.
"Outside! Backyard! Now!" He gleefully beamed before running down the hall. His heavy combat boots thumping on the hardwood floors in a way that could have driven a whole through it if there wasn't a cement base underneath.
"But there's going to be a storm out," I yelled, getting of my bed and sliding on the waxed hardwood floor with my newest pair of batman socks to the threshold of my doorway.
"Exactly!" He remarked and I could hear the excitement in his deep voice.
ZIONOur house was located in a very secluded area of town. From the outside it had a scary appearance due to the black and grey exterior. Large black gates stood firm at the entrance of the cobblestone driveway to stop unwanted guests from trespassing. There were tall trees all over the yard that had a lack of leaves on them since it was autumn. The back yard was basically a huge field with dry, brownish grass. There was no way anyone could see anything that happened in our massive backyard because of how high the stone fencing was. It was why my father bought this particular house in the first place. The more secluded the better. That way we could practice magic without the possibility of being seen. Every house I had ever lived in had the same dark, mystic demeanor as this house. It almost looked as if it was haunted and with the black storm clouds that were rolling in, the house looked gloomy and petri
ZIONFlinging my school bag over my shoulder, I entered the school building for another daunting day at the miserable place. Just like yesterday, everybody stopped what they were doing to stare at me with their undying attention. I refrained from the urge to roll my eyes. It was as if they had never seen a teenage boy before.Alina was already at her locker when I arrived at the mine, a blonde girl kneeling against the lockers next to her and laughing. The girl was shorter than Alina and much curvier. She had deep blue eyes and plump pink lips to match. Her hair was cropped short, to her shoulders and wavy which matched her outfit of black high waist jeans and a black tube top. A leather jacket and boots finished her look.I took my time walking to my locker as I shifted my gaze to Alina who was having an animated conversation with her friend. Her hands moved everywhere, almost hitting a poor boy who was w
ZIONShe did her best to avoid me for the rest of the day. If she found me taking a seat beside her then she would trade seats with someone to get away from me. Most, if not all of the girls she traded seats with were thrilled by her offer, grabbing the sliver of a chance to talk to me. I hated it, every minute of it. She could see how much I despised it and she took pleasure in watching my annoyance grow. And yet I still wanted to be near her, to speak to her. I was clearly losing my shit. The only class we didn't share was economics. I couldn't help but wonder what elective she chose in its place. My economics teacher was young for her age and I was certain every boy in the class chose this elective just so they could drool over her like pathetic dogs. Ms. Fielding ignored the whistles, flirtatious looks and constant ogling from the students as best she could. It surprised me that the attention
ZION I sat outside the principles office as I waited for my parents to show up. Kendra sat silently beside me. Her friends sitting opposite us. It surprised me that she hadn't gone with them, she chose to sit with me although we just met not even an hour ago. The boy I punched held an ice pack to his swelling eye. A purple bruise beginning to form."I didn't peg you for the guy who had problems controlling his anger," Kendra decided to open her mouth and I was suddenly wishing that she decided to sit with the group instead of with me, "The guy you punched, his name is Brady Hampshire. His father is the richest man in town and the biggest dick if you asked me. They're going to do anything to make your life hell now just because of that."I scoffed at the thought of someone making my life worse than it was already, "He probably won't have the chance because I may not be returning tomorrow." This school was
ZIONI sat with my father in the lounge as he looked over the plans for the house. He planned to tear the entire house down and build it from scratch, making it look like a mansion. If it were up to my father, he would build a huge home making it look like something the grim reaper would live in but thanks to my mother, there was going to be color in the house. She already began clearing all dead trees in the front yard, hiring a landscaper to decorate the place to make it look more inviting. My father tossed a book toward me, not even looking up from the sheet of blue paper displayed on the coffee table, "After what you did today, I'm not entirely sure I want to help you anymore but, it doesn't seem like I have a choice. Go through the book. Some of the things in there may or may not help you."The book had no name, just a leathery brown plain cover, and the brown pages inside where tatted and torn from m
ZION"You're evil," I croaked, sucking in a sharp breath before shoving my head into the toilet and regurgitating the contents of my stomach. Whatever was in that mac and cheese clearly was lethal and I should have figured that out the moment I saw no one else eating it. Today, of all days, today was the day Kendra chose to initiate our bet and I finally understood why."Look, I expected you to eat one bite and spit it out. No one asked you to be a macho man and eat the entire serving," Kendra taunted, standing outside the stall and laughing at me.I honestly felt as if I was dying! I just didn't want to seem weak and spit out the horrid shit the moment I put it in my mouth so I took it like a man, and completed the entire serving. Not even two minutes after eating the mac and cheese, I had to race into the restroom to throw up. Kendra allowed herself to follow behind, slipping h
ZION"I'll wack you over the head with this textbook and maybe, just maybe, some sense would get knocked into you," Alina threatened, her words holding so much conviction that it actually scared me slightly.I pulled the textbook out of her hand with my free one and with the arm I had on her shoulders, I led her toward the lunch tables outside. The textbook read 'The Science behind Psychology' and I nearly scoffed at that, "Psychology isn't a science, it's allowing any nosey son of a bitch to make a quick buck by listening to other people's depressing lives. I bet the only reason they do it is to make themselves feel better about themselves like if he's life is crappier than mine then all's good with the world."When she quirked her brow at me I couldn't help but stare in awe. She made the simple action look like an art, that's how perfectly raised her one brow was compared to the other. I held th
ZION"Zion, for fucks sakes. Can't you keep your hands to yourself," Kendra fumed as she swatted my fingers away from her, "Didn't your mama teach you not to mess with a black girl's weave!" The scowl on her face amused me as well the red weave she decided to get during the weekend."No one asked you to pick fire engine red for your hair. It's not my fault you look like a stoplight with sparkling skin," I taunted, watching how her caramel skin glittered under the soft glow of the sun. It was a dull day but the sun decided to show itself now and then.Shooting me the bird, she tossed her straight as a pin hair over her shoulders, "Bitch, you know I'm gorgeous. Now I'm gorgeous and I stand out." With those words, she shot me a playful wink that had me rolling my eyes.We were standing outside the school building, both of us kneeling against my car and facing the sun to take in its warmth. Th
