James
I am terrible at being a supportive big brother. I just can’t seem to believe she is a grown woman and old enough to date. I’m being unreasonable for trying to get between her and Conrad. I’m practically pursuing a girl and it's way too obvious that everyone appears to have noticed a change. I really should try and be more open and try to be level-headed about her relationship and not be a jerk.
Me: I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have scared your boyfriend. I will try to be more welcoming next time.
I sighed after I texted her as I walked out of the house. I got into the car and there was a buzz.
Harper: Fine. You’re still a jerk.
I smiled as I drove off the driveway.

James “Oh my God,” she gushed, “What? How?” she clamped her mouth with both hands. I was really proud of myself because her reaction was exactly what I was aiming for. She was awestruck and I could see her staring in shock. We were at Springs Beach but this time I arranged a secluded place to have dinner. The setting was beautiful and more than what I expected in less than ninety minutes I had called and arranged this. We were both staring at a white draped gazebo with enough space for a table setting for two. Lights were illuminating around at the top, bottom, on all four corners. “James,” she looked at me as she walked in. I smiled as I looked at her, my heart thrumming. I loved how my name swirled in her tongue. I looked at the lamps that were dangling on top and I noticed they threw in a heater because it was a little chilly. “Do you like it?” I asked sheepishly. “I- ” her mouth was still agape. “Come on, sit,” I chuckled at her loss of words. I held a chair for her as she
James There was no denying the attraction between us because the kiss we shared was like something I have never experienced before. My thumb hand lingered on her cheek for far too long before she looked at me and I was lost in her eyes. We were both lost in each other’s gaze. She was indeed beautiful and the silence between us made the pull much stronger because everything else didn’t matter as I drew my lips closer to hers. I kissed her and she was stiff only for a second before she parted her lips and kissed me back. I don’t know how long the kiss lasted but I didn’t want it to end but she eventually pulled back looking at me with her unreadable eyes. Did she regret it? I certainly didn’t? She created space between us as she fell silent cle
Kioni James had listened and he wasn’t looking at me with pitiful eyes. His eyes had compassion and I felt a lump in my throat. I didn’t plan on telling him about the accident but felt I needed to explain myself. This was not coming from a place where I needed his pity but because of the kindness he had shown which deserved some honesty. “Thank you.I’m sorry.” he said with a warm smile, I’m sorry for what happened to you” He looked at me no differently than I pulled my hand away from his. He nodded silently as if understanding and I spoke again. “I have a lot going on and it won’t be fair to you if we start a relationship. Don’t think-,” “I understand,” he cut me off, “I know you feel something and the kiss we shared earlier it’s-“ he paused
James A week has passed. Harper was still mad at me because she met with Nigel at the mall last Saturday. She spent the rest of the week going to college alone. She barely spoke over ten words to me. It was not my intention after she had left with a warning not to meddle, but as I was on my way to my date. I had a call with Nigel and had mentioned her date and the warning. Nigel is like me. Protective. He did the exact thing I would have done on my behalf and I’m grateful, but now we are facing the wrath of a teenager in love. Nancy suggested we have lunch at their place today so we can be more supportive and have time to know Conrad. She also warned that if we became hostile, she would take it upon herself to make things harder for Nigel and me. "Harper!" I shouted. "Come on, we g
Kioni “What?” I blushed, smiling. “You’re beautiful,” James grinned as he grabbed my hand. “Are you sure this dessert will be fine?” I asked, lifting the cheesecake tray trying to hide my tomato face. “Are you trying to hide that pretty face from me?” he stopped at the door. “It’s your fault for making me blush so much. It's embarrassing, you know,” I giggled a little. “You love it,” he grinned, pecking the corner of my lips. “Behave, we need to get in,” I said. "James!" I whisper, hoping no one sees us. “Hm,” he paused, grabbing the round dish from me, “It’s your fault for being so gorgeous. I can't help myself.” He grinned before parting his lips, and he kissed me on the mouth. The door opened and a male voice cleared his throat as James groaned. “Not now, Nigel.” he never parted his lips that I had to pull back and bury my face on his chest underneath his jacket. “Look who's behaving like a teenager,” Nigel chuckles. “Come on, you two, everyone is here.” “In a minute,” J
Kioni I felt like a feather as we drove off in silence after we left Nancy and Nigel’s house. I was happy to be around them for once, something very rare for me. I have always tried to avoid even the smallest gatherings my mother had with her friends like the plague but today I had a great time. They didn’t ask any more questions that I could not answer. They were not pushy but understanding and great company that I would do it again soon. In fact, I can’t wait to have lunch or dinner with them again sometime. A new wave of sadness washed over me as my smile faded because I thought of my brother. I would do anything to see him again and I was sure he was watching me from a distance. I could feel it and every time I looked back or stopped to see it was as if he was closer. I began imagining Adam and my biological parents sitting together having a meal. I closed my eyes leaning on the window trying to reign in tears that were threatening to come out. “You okay there babe?” James asked
Nick It was tiring of working under my father. He was running on my nerves all the time and being a pain in my ass. He had to micromanage everything, and he always prances around and barges in my office like he doesn’t have his own work to do. As if that wasn’t enough, he was in my house so early in the morning, pissing me off further with his unannounced visit. “I’m going to be away for a couple of days, which means you will have to take over some of my work. I'm sure you will be able to handle that.” “Are you asking or telling me?” I responded with furrowed brows. “Telling.” He deadpanned. Calm down, Nick. He will leave soon. No need for exchange of words. Just picture him and the punching bag when he leaves. I repeated over and over in my
Kioni I lost something ten years ago. I remember the bracelet. It has to do with why Adam broke in. I was having flashes and they were clear. Adam was on the floor bloody from a gunshot wound. He told me to run but not before he told me the bracelet had our legacy. Something important. He lied to you and you need to run. Trust no one, only Sebastian. Find him, he will explain. They did this to us and the bracelet has the proof you need to fight. It’s up to you to make them pay, sis. I love you Kiki. Adam’s words were loud in my head and clear. They were like a chorus in my head sounding louder and louder.
