James had listened and he wasn’t looking at me with pitiful eyes. His eyes had compassion and I felt a lump in my throat. I didn’t plan on telling him about the accident but felt I needed to explain myself. This was not coming from a place where I needed his pity but because of the kindness he had shown which deserved some honesty.
“Thank you.I’m sorry.” he said with a warm smile, I’m sorry for what happened to you”
He looked at me no differently than I pulled my hand away from his. He nodded silently as if understanding and I spoke again.
“I have a lot going on and it won’t be fair to you if we start a relationship. Don’t think-,”

Kioni I felt like a feather as we drove off in silence after we left Nancy and Nigel’s house. I was happy to be around them for once, something very rare for me. I have always tried to avoid even the smallest gatherings my mother had with her friends like the plague but today I had a great time. They didn’t ask any more questions that I could not answer.
