Chapter 23

I squinted my eyes as the morning sunlight conjured the most brilliant of mosaics, reflecting from each leaf and wisp of cloud. It was as if there was a pure joy in the light, as if it were happy to create art where it shone, warm and steady.

I took a glimpse of the back of a tall man standing at the window. I protected my eyes with my hand as he spread the curtains to allow the sunshine into the room.

"Come on! It is morning love." Arnold clasped his hand and walked towards me on the bed.

"Arnold!" I grunted as I bounced back on the bed. "I need more sleep." I murmured and shut back my eyes.

Arnold pulled off the duvet from me and dragged me up from the bed. "You gonna be late for work, don't be lazy."

"Arnold!" My eyes still remained closed.

His cold lips clashed on my forehead, "Thanks for the night." Then, to my nose.
