3.Free At Last

Her wolf hit the ground, and she heard the glass hitting the pavement next to her. Without evening looking back, she took off in a full sprint. She heard the shouting from behind her and sped her pace up. She’s out and now she made sure it stayed that way. Crystal’s heart raced more than it ever had as she heard Andrew and his friends chasing behind her in their wolf forms. Aurora promised she wouldn’t let them catch her. They would not go back to that life.

They trampled over limbs, dodged trees, cleared a stream, and still, they gave chase. As her legs began to tire, the forest got thicker, and she knew she was entering Blood Moon Pack. She could smell him faintly and it gave her an extra boost of energy. They crossed into Blood Moon and his scent got stronger, almost like he was coming for her. She hoped so, she was wearing down. She continued to run but as her legs grew more and more tired, she heard Andrew closing in. She could hear wolves in front of her and she grew more hopeful. So much so, that she tripped up. Within seconds, Andrew was on top of her with his teeth to her throat. She closed her eyes and prepared for the worst. In a flash, though, the weight was off of her. She slowly opened her eyes, fearing the worst. When she did, she took a huge breath of relief. Andrew’s friends were being held off by at least a dozen wolves. Andrew, however, was beneath a huge black wolf. Crystal knew who it was before Aurora told her. It was Drake, Killian’s wolf. She had never seen Andrew in such a submissive stance. She secretly loved it. She knew she was safe. She was on Blood Moon territory and Killian wouldn’t let harm come to her.

Killian got back and immediately warned his guards on border patrol that they may have company. Without thinking, Killian took off towards the border that was closest to Silver Thunder. He felt in his gut and his heart she was coming, and she would need him. He knew his guards were behind him and never slowed down. What he saw was his beautiful mate beneath a brown wolf he guessed was her brother. Drake grew so furious, he leapt at him. Once on top and he knew she was safe, he made sure Andrew knew he wasn’t playing around. He was on his land and he made sure he remembered that. He backed off of him and shifted so he stood on two feet. Andrew followed his lead and also shifted. The guards did not so neither did Andrew’s group. She was too timid to do the same, so she just watched and listened.

“Andrew Johnston, future alpha of Silver Thunder. You are trespassing on Blood Moon territory. I am going to be nice and let you and those with you leave with no punishment. Refuse and I’ll show you why we are called Blood Moon. Let’s not forget my guards and I arrived to see you threatening the life of my mate. Leave now and never return without a formal invitation.”

“I’ll take my sister with me.”

“My mate will stay where she belongs. May I remind you that you are not an alpha and you are not on your territory.”

She saw the defeat in Andrew’s face as he nodded his head and then shifted. He walked back to his group. They left slowly at first and then took off once they reached the border. Once they were well off, the guards stayed at the border, half staying in wolf form.

Killian calmed down and walked over to her. She sat so low and she was shaking. He sat down in front of her and stroked the fur on her head until she relaxed. When she looked up at him, he saw her clear eyes but also saw the pain behind them. He decided to do something to help her feel safe and secure.

“If you will let me, I can carry you home as you are. I can sit with you until you feel ready to shift again.”

He saw her nod her muzzle and scooped her up. He told the guards he would send replacements for them and that the patrols would be tripled until she felt safe here. He walked her back to the packhouse. He mind-linked his Beta, Jake, and warned him of what had happened. He told him they were not to be disturbed until he said otherwise.

She watched and took in his scent as he walked them back to the packhouse. She started to shake as she saw all the people look at them, but he tightened his grip to make her feel safer. He took them up three flights of stairs and not once did he waiver. She noted his strength and thanked the Moon Goddess for her mate. Once inside the large room, he set her down on the bed and turned and locked the door. He grabbed a chair and sat by the door. He didn’t want to make her nervous by sitting too close and figured if she wanted him near her, she let him know.

Crystal felt cold and exposed with him sitting away from her. She whined in protest until he came sat with her. He laid down next to her and pulled her wolf close. After a while, she dozed off. Once he felt her body relax and he knew she was asleep, he relaxed and let sleep take him.

He hoped when morning came, she would be more relaxed to get to know him and know that she was now safe and where she belonged.
