Chapter 6

Two days have passed with neither Roman and I running into each other, more like I've been trying to avoid him, staying out of his way.

Hard work indeed.

After finding out about his girlfriend, I was given more reason to stay away, for us to not run into each other.

It didn't feel right for me, to be following after Roman even if it's to check on him. I have no right to interfere in his life, to even bother him, though he's done just that.

What would his girlfriend think if some strange girl followed after her boyfriend?......No. Avoiding him is the best option.

And speaking of relationships, my own is still on the unclear, Danny and I haven't spoken much after his encounter with Roman, so talking to him was out of the question for now.

So I spent most of my time in the school library, having the peace I so craved for, the first time I arrived here. Deep down I knew that I was avoiding everyone, and who better then to figure this out, then my dear cousin Sam.

I was meant to not be caught but of course, he just had to be at the library the same time I was there.

What surprised me though, was him arriving with company, the same guy from the bonfire, Roman's friend among them. I tried keeping my head low but the sound of feet slowly approaching, were indication enough of an incoming.

" So we've resorted to this now?" Sam asks, pulling a chair out to settle down next to me.

I sigh, before glancing away from my book.

" What?"

He gives me a ' really ' look before sighing." It's only been a week being back here and already, you look like the whole world is on your shoulders."

"That's not true, I'm okay." I deny.

" I haven't seen a real smile on you, since you've been back." He mentions.

I open my mouth to disagree with him, but stop, deciding against it.

"Maybe I haven't had a reason yet." I trail off, getting lost in thought.

A hand covering my own brings me back to reality. I tilt my head to look at him.

"Well let's change that shall we?" I quirk my brow in question.

"We're going out tomorrow night."

"Can't, I have plans with my dad." I say.

Dad had texted to tell me that he'd come by and we'd spend the day together. I was really surprised that's for sure, it had been quite a long time since dad and I spent more then an hour together. I was excited about it, it would give us a chance to at least talk and have a bit of fun, to bond again and get back to how things were, before everything else happened.

My dad and I have always had a close relationship, I've been a daddy's girl from the start and seeing the distance grow between us has surely hurt my heart. I miss him honestly, not just to have his presence but for him to be present with me.

" Is Saturday okay then?" I nod, digging around for my phone when he wants it.

"What would we even do?" I ask.

" I'll think of something." He says, punching in some numbers before handing the phone back to me.

"Are we going clubbing?" I ask warily.

"Yu'll just have to wait and see." He says.

I roll my eyes at him, leaning back on my seat.

"Hey Sam, I'll be right back." I tell him, leaving the table and not even giving him a chance to say anything.

I carefully follow after Roman's friend, the one I'm yet to know his name.

"You know, I feel flattered by your stalking." The guy says, not tearing his eyes off the book he's reading.

"Ofourse, I just can't resist you." I say sarcastically.

He closes the book, finally giving me his attention, his lips twitching into a smirk.

"So, what do I owe the pleasure miss Hazel?"

I can't determine whether he's mocking me or what.

I stare at him for a few seconds before walking closer to him." You know my name yet I don't know yours."

" If it's my name you so badly wanted, all you had to do was ask."

"Oh please, don't put too much thought on me being here. I just wanted to put a name to a stranger, who so happens to have a little shared information about me, maybe through time of lock up."

" Well it's no secret that my buddy and I cruised the cells occasionally, but I'm pretty sure that it must be bothering you, to be the last to know at least that."

I can sense a certain emotion behind those words.

Does he hate me? But he doesn't even know me.

"And why would that be huh?" I fold my arms.

" You're here aren't you?- So you tell me."

I open my mouth to speak but stop.

It wont be worth getting into.

My lips lift into a smile." I can see that you've made up your mind about me, but that's fine. Forget you saw me." I turn around and walk away, only to be spun around by a hand on my wrist.

"You know, you should stop dancing around the truth here."

" Which is?" I arch my brow.

" That you secretly like this little game you're playing. You like him chasing after you."

" That's not true."

" You feed off the attention you've been receiving, the chase from the childhood friend and keeping your little boyfriend at arm's length, you like it don't you?"

" Let me guess, you concluded this through your own little observation right?"

" Oh I don't need much observation to know when one refuses to let go of the past, all because they are feeling all mighty, throwing it back into people's faces." He let's go of my hand, stepping forward.

"Stop complicating things and talk to the guy. "

My blood boils at that, but I reign it in.

" Why should I -Why should I make things easy for him?"

He opens his mouth to speak but I hold up my hand to silence him. "He doesn't deserve anything from me, nothing. He's not worth it."

His eyes move behind me.

" Did you hear that buddy, straight from her lips." His eyes come back to me. "Why don't you repeat it for him."

My body tenses because I know Roman's here, standing right behind me.

His friend's eyes dare me to say it straight to his friend, yet something passes through his eyes, something totally different, as if he really doesn't want me to do it.

I almost believe it's what I've seen but the words he just spewed play in mind.

"Okay then." I turn to face my ex best friend.

" I'll clear things up for all of us, once and for all. Like I've said before." I pause, this time I look him straight in the eyes. A flash of an unknown emotion passes through his eyes.

He's not hiding it.

" I don't want to hear anything from you, so leave me be."

"And why should I?"  He speaks up.

" Because you're not worth my time." I say, my eyes remaining on him.

"Okay, got it." He nods, before walking past me, his shoulder bumping into mine, leaving me alone.

I glance over my shoulder, following him with my eyes as he disappears out of view.

I shouldn't feel any different from my words. Should I?

I turn back to stare ahead and my eyes meet Sam, who stands just a few feet from me. He wears a look of disappointment on his face, shaking his head at me.

Darn it.
