Chapter 8

Samantha POV

We are currently sitting in front of the television. Kaleb opened up something that he calls N*****x. I didn't know what N*****x was until he explained to me that it is an app that you can watch movies on. It is a foreign concept to me. I cannot remember if I have ever even watched television. I remember seeing one in the masters home but it was never on.

"So what do you want to watch? Do you want to watch a movie or a series?" Kaleb was slowly flipping through what he called the start-up page looking for something to watch.

"I don't know. We didn't have screen time at school, so I don't know what kind of movies there are. I think this is the first time I watched something on the television." I look down at my hands. I feel so uncultured.

Kaleb slowly turned towards me with a scowl on his face. He has a look between disappointment and anger on his face. He sighs and takes my hand.

"There is so much that I to teach you. What did you do for fun at school?" Kaleb turns his whole body towards me. I feel so embarrassed. I have never had this much attention ever. The fact that we are sitting this close makes me uncomfortable.

"We mostly read and painted. Teachers didn't care about non-important subjects. They taught us that if you read a book you will be able to hold an intelligent conversation with your master. They also said that if you paint you will look elegant to your master." I look up and see the shock in Kaleb's eyes. I take this opportunity to move away from him.

"What subjects did they deem important?" He places his arm on the back of the couch.

"There are three major subjects cooking, cleaning, and seduction. Then there is hair, make-up and what to wear to what function. We learn how to read and write between the ages of 7 and 9. And that is about it." The more I talk the bigger his eyes became.

"So you didn't have math, biology, or history?"

"No math, no biology, but we did have history. What we learned in history had to do with the supernaturals all over the world. Like what your rituals are and stuff like that." I look down at my hands.

"So everything that they teach you in school has to do with how to be a better slave for your master?"

"Yes. That is true. Even as children, we were not allowed to play outside. What subjects did you have in school?"

"We kept all the subject from human schools sixty years ago. We had English, math, history, biology, social studies, and science."

"I don't know what most of that is. Can I ask you a personal question?" Kaleb looks at me confused.

"You know that you can."

"How many slaves have you had before me?" I could see that my question caught him off guard.

"You are my first slave, however, I don't like to use the word slave. I see you more than a companion. I know that I have bought you, I want to set up a bank account for you and pay you a monthly allowance. Almost like a monthly paycheck. You can use it as you please. If you don't want to use it, that is okay with me." I gape at him with my mouth open.

"No, please don't. You don't have to do that. You have already given me food and a place to stay. I know I am your first slave, but you need to remember that you paid for me. I am practically your property." Kaleb takes my hands in his.

"When I said you are part of the pack, I meant it. Most of the werewolves don't misuse the humans like the other species. There are a few of us that do not wait for our mates, but I can promise you that I plan to wait for mine. I know you have to retire at a certain age, so I want to make sure that you are taken care of once that happens." Kaleb slowly smiles at me and I realize that I was in big trouble.

We settled back onto the couch after I promised not to argue further on the subject. Kaleb decided that he wanted to watch a series he called 'supernatural'. He explained to me what it is about, but I didn't really pay attention to anything he was saying.

My mind kept circling back to the conversation that we just had. Kaleb is such a sweet and loving person. I have never heard of another master that set up a bank account for his slave, however, I have heard of multiple slaves falling in love with their master. That is where my problem lies. I fear that in the long run I will fall in love with him and that will be a total disaster. The slave always comes in second. We never win.

Most supernaturals will only marry their mates, even if we hope for more. This is where things always get complicated. Female mates are very territorial. If they find out that you are in love with their mates it can get you killed.

I forced my mind back to the television. I struggled to get my mind to focus on the series, but once I cleared my head and actually watched, I realized that I actually quite enjoyed it.

We just finished our third episode when I felt my eyes get heavy. I and the familiar pull of darkness. I didn't realize how tired I was until that moment. I let go and allowed myself to fall asleep.
