The annoying yet expensive sound of my iPhone ringing jolted me awake and I reached out for it, touching around until my hand grabbed the thin device. I answered it.
"Good morning to you, good mo-orning to you, good morning, good morning, good mo-orning to you, beautiful", the annoyingly husky and charming voice sang horribly and I laughed all through. He sounded like a frog choking on aloe vera and I did not just make that up, people. I checked the time and it was 7.00am. I was about to snap at him when he beat me to it. "My job here is done, I made you smile", he hung up and just like it was programmed, my dad started calling me. I answered.
"Dad, it's so early, why are you calling me this early in the morning?"
"Now I'm sure you didn't say that to whoever you just finished talking to"
"Dad!"
"Fine, fine, I called to tell you that your Dad and I would be going to Detroit for about two to three mon
Time for the party rolled around and I took a shower and got dressed in a chestnut colored off-shoulder dress reaching my mid-thigh, along with black sandals. I love sandals, the way they expose more of your beautiful feet. I heard the doorbell and open it, surprised to see Jade standing there. She was supposed to be at Jeremy's. She came in and explained to me that they had an argument and she had to leave. I offered to stay with her but she literally locked me out the house.River arrived and I introduced him to Jade before we left. We got to the frat house at 8pm and dude, there were people there, lots of them. River's hold on my hand tightened as he pushed his way inside, not literally though. I spotted my friends and waved at them while they invited me over. I pulled River and we sat down after exchanging pleasantries."Dude, let's play truth or dare", someone yelled in the group and everyone agreed. We formed a circle and Noel put a
I was sleeping peacefully when I felt a slight tug on my shoulder. I ignored it and rolled the other way but I was yanked back and I opened my eyes with a loud groan to see River smiling down at me."What are you doing here?""Um...I live here and you really have to start getting used to me around", he shrugged. "Hell, we've slept on the same bed for close to a month and you still keep asking that"."Yeah", I rubbed my eyes. "We should really stop that""Stop what?""Sleeping together, cuddling and all that""Why?""Cause we're not really dating?", I asked the oblivious fool."Right, you just killed it", he got up and I noticed the plate of toast he was holding. "You fucking ruined my day", he snapped at me, dumping the delicious looking plate in the bin beside the bed angrily before stomping out. Guess I was the oblivious one. I gasped at his attit
"Are you sure you're fine?", I asked Jade for the umpteenth time as she clutched her big stomach with a painful expression on her face. Dude, pregnancy is hard as fuck."Yeah, I'm okay, I think this is just how pregnancy works", she took in a deep breath and her eyes widened as she let out a soundless scream. I was starting to panic but she gave me a reassuring smile which was interrupted by a slow and short painful squeal."This can't be right, I'll call Cam or Jeremy or River to come drive us to the hospital", Know that popular saying "speak of the devil and he comes waltzing in"? Yup, the devil did waltz in. The doorbell sounded and I rushed to it to find Goldie standing there with an adorable toothy grin. "Oh thank God you're here, come", I pulled him in hurriedly towards the couch which Jade was laid on, rubbing her stomach."What's wrong with her?", The tone with which he convened the question was both urgent and worried.
Cam and Jeremy had finally arrived at the clinic to see Jade since the doctor said she couldn't leave yet. Apparently; she was still too unstable and needed to be monitored professionally.Everybody was present yet no sign of River. I thought of calling him but I changed my mind; if he was leaving, he would be respectful enough to at least let me know by calling or texting, right? Maybe something came up, something urgent and he forgot to inform me about it. But then again, it's River, who knows? He might be somewhere setting something up to surprise me for the gram again. I focused my attention back on Cam who was making jokes, like his life and presence wasn't enough.Cam: I see you've got jokes, huh? T
11Fast forward to two weeks after the incident, almost forgotten; keyword: "almost".Jade: You all just can't forget about the incident, right? You also had to put it in the story, didn't you? Really?Yes really. Anyways, I was had poetry class, super important. I recently downloaded a poetry app on my phone which I actually really enjoyed plus it came with a certain kind of relief and I loved reading about people's deep and raw thoughts; so I signed up for poetry class.
The expensive sound of my iPhone going off jolted me back to reality; I was completely focused on my writing. I closed my laptop and picked up my phone to see three texts which I opened immediately. Two were from Goldie and one from Grey. You all know which one I opened first.Grey😍: Hey, are you free today, there's a carnival opening tonight, would you like to go with me?Me: Of course, I'll see you later. Then I opened River's text.Goldie: Hey babe, sorry I've been too busy lately. Classes and shit, y'know?Goldie: There's a carnival tonight, let me make it up to you by taking you there, my treat.
13We stopped by the store for a quick snack and by quick snack, I mean quick and unnecessary food. I don't eat chocolates; any type of chocolate because of my allergies so we got the other good stuff, cookies, ice cream, juice boxes and the sorts. While Grey was trying to decide which one to get between Lays barbecue and Lays classic, I decided to look around and see if I needed anything else. I walked past different rows and isles until my eyes landed on what I thought and hoped I wouldn't have to come across; more like who. I wanted to go with Jade's advice and just ignore him and walk away but I couldn't. I decided to just go talk to him. Be the bigger person. After all, how bad can it be, right?Man it was bad, really bad becau
14Waiting at the hospital was a sport for me but I had to. A few of my coursemates were there as well, waiting to hear what had happened to Gerald. The police took the statement of everyone found at the lakeside and were also waiting for the doctor's verdict to start the case. Jade, Jeremy, Cam, Grey and I were on one side waiting, the others were either outside or by the snack machine. We all had one thing in common, we were anxiously awaiting something, anything at all."Eve, come with me", Jade commanded. By the tone she used in conveying her message, I knew I couldn't rebel so I just followed her until we got into an empty ward. Little did I know she was thinking the same thing I was. "Do you think River might be behind this?", She a
