Familiar, Like Home

JACOB POV

I don't know what I was thinking talking to her but when I stepped out of my suite to take a stroll, I found her seating by herself on one of the tables, staring at the menu. She looked extremely adorable which isn't a usual term I used when it came to women. My words were usually, hot, sexy, fuck-able at this moment, she looked all of those things. Her hair looked freshly washed and her green sweater, so fucking innocent but I knew better.

This was the same Becca that enjoyed the sexual part of our relationship more than even I did which seemed impossible.

Yesterday, I was completely fazed to see her here. It was like the universe was trying to play some joke on me when I'd told my sister I wasn't attracted to Becca again, booked myself a Vacation, and there she was, like a living relic gaping at me.

I should've let her run away because I deserve it, but I let my foolish heart follow her. And this morning, I was the one to walk up to her, and couldn't keep my hands from holding hers. They felt... familiar. Like home.

"There's a parking space" She points forward, I stare at her for some time, a smile on my face and when she noticed me staring, she frowned looking away. She's beautiful. So fucking beautiful.

I follow her directions and park in the little space before we both step out, my hands take hers again and she gives me a confused look before shrugging her hand away.

"Stop touching me" she scolds.

"Is it affecting you?" I ask and her eyes flatter for a bit before she put on that bad girl look. I grin.

"Touch me one more time and I'll cut your hands off" she threatens which makes my cock just harden against my zipper. After all these years, I'm still drawn to her as always. I could be contented with Claudia, but she and I both know we're not a thing, and she knows how much Becca means to me Even though I deny it.

As we step into the airport, her eyes roam the place for her friends before she finally skips toward a fat lady. Well not fat, but pregnant. When I look closely at her, I remember her to be Bailey.

I follow Becca but stay behind her and watch her do all her girl hugs before Bailey's eyes finally settle on me and she smiled warmly. I thought she'd be mad at me for breaking her friend's heart for leaving.

"And look at you big guy" she grinned. "Long time no see"

"Yeah," I say scratching behind my neck. "Good to see you Bail"

"You too, Jacob." She said then glared at Becca. "Now what'd I miss?"

"Becca! Becca!" A little girl skipped toward us and she looks just like the girl I saw on Becca's page. She hugs Becca.

"Happy to see you, Kai. " Becca said then turned to me. "This is Kai, Bailey's daughter", she said and I feel my head lighten a bit. I was under the illusion Becca had a child.

"Hey guys" a man walked up to us.

"And this is Colton, Bailey's husband" Becca introduces the man. I nod at him before we shake hands then he stops to stare at me harder.

"No way, Jacob Fox?"

"Um...yes," I say, unsure because I haven't met him before have I?

"Cool. I follow your Instagram, your that Tech guy right? You're also an estate manager..." He was saying when Becca cut him off with the clearing of her throat.

"I'll like to get back to the resort now? This cold is persistent" She says and starts walking away after she rolled her eyes at me. What is her problem? Ok, I know but still I was hoping we were moving forward at some point today.

°°°

Becca seemed so happy to see Bailey and her family and it brought a smile to my face to see her bubbly and jumpy around the little girl, Kai. I don't think I've seen her smile since we both saw each other here on Aspen. But here I am, having a front-row ticket to see her smile.

And by front row ticket, I'm here driving back to the lodge when she gushes about all the fun things they could do.

God, I'm whipped!. Whoever said I was over Becca Sanders doesn't know what they're talking about. Personally, when I say I'm over her, I don't know what I'm talking about. Being around her now helps me realize why I fell in love with her in the first place.

Her smile, her laughter, her ability to make environments so lively, among other things.

"Here we are!" I announce and Kai starts jumping up and down. She's cute, and she looks like Bailey. How could I have ever thought she was Becca's child?

"The place is lovely" Bailey smiled. "Come on honey, let's get down," she said to her husband.

We all get down and I find myself searching for Becca's hand but she hid it away from me, under her sweater. I stare at her and she doesn't move, just keeps looking forward.

"I'm hungry, but I'm also tired" Bailey complains to her friend. This should be my cue to leave, but I'm enjoying my presence here with them.

"Then you should rest. We'll have dinner" Becca tells her as we all head to their suit. I'm helping with some bags, and Bailey is thanking me for the assistance while also asking me how I am.

"Wait! That's your suite?" Becca asked when I unlock the key to the room next door to hers.

I smile. "Yes. Yes, it is" I say and her eyes widen.

"That's a major coincidence" she accuses with furrowed brows.

"Trust me. I didn't know that was your suit either"

"Ok ok, while you two bickering kids are done, I'm going to bed," Bailey says and follows after her husband with her daughter by her side.

Becca walks to her suit and stops ."Why're you doing this?" She asks quietly.

"Doing what?"

"You know exactly what I'm talking about, Jacob. Why're you being nice, hanging around and smiling all the damn time!" She snaps. I leave the door where I'm standing, walking to her. I take her hands in mine.

"Because I'm happy to see you"

"Bullshit" she spits. "We both know that's a lie"

"It's not"

"Then why'd you leave?!" She throws it in my face.

"Is that all? Is that all your pain? Me leaving? Ever since we saw each other, you've been throwing that in my face...and I said I was sorry"

"You're sorry! So what? I should just forgive you like nothing ever happened, and we go back to normal?" She huffs. Part of me wanted to say yes, but I knew it won't be that easy on her.

Truly I miss her, but she won't believe me. I don't blame her.

"I'm sorry" was all I could say.

Becca huffs, shaking her head before disappearing into her room and slamming the door behind her.

°°°

As I lay in bed, my hands beneath my head and my eyes to the ceiling, I hear my phone ring so I get up to get it. Claudia's name flash on the screen.

"Hey," I say when I pick.

"Hey, babe" I could hear the smile in her voice. "How're you doing? Are you home?" She asked and I get up quickly, my hands going to run behind my neck.

"Um...no. I'm at my dad's" I lie.

"Oh, that's a shame. I wanted to come over" she sings the last part. "Your PA also told me that you weren't at work"

"That's true. I worked from home" I lie again because I am sure as hell that I haven't even picked up my laptop since I arrived here. My mind has been occupied with no one else but Becca.

"Are you ok? You're sick? You never get sick" she giggles and I smile.

"You know that," I say and she laughs.

"Well, when are you going to be back from your dad's?" She asked next.

"Um..." Whenever Becca is leaving Aspen I want to say but..."probably next week or so, I'm not sure yet. I just needed a little rest"

"I should've come with you," I think she's pouting now. "That would've been one fun rest"

"Yeah...sure," I say. A soft knock on my door makes me leave the bed. "Uh. Claudia, I'll have to call you back"

"Sure. Bye honey"

"Yeah, bye," I say and hang up before swinging the door opened. I see Bailey there, in maternal home wear, rubber slippers covering her feet, and her hair bunched up.

"Does your husband knew you're parading the halls in flip-flops?" I ask her with a grin and she chuckles.

"Well yes and no" she replies. "I just came to invite you over for dinner. I know Becca wouldn't"

"That'll be understandable" I sigh.

"Yes, but it's been a while and I'd like to catch up" she smiles. "So what'd you say?"

"Sure"

"Great then," she says and starts walking away but stops. "Oh and... don't mind Becca. She's just a little confused but I'm sure she cares about you"

If that didn't make me smile, I will be dammed. "Thanks"

"You're welcome. Dinner is in thirty minutes at the lodge's diner"

"I'll be there," I say and shut my door, a stupid and uncontrollable grin on my face.
