Chapter 6 - Logan

I hadn't expected the team to arrive so quickly. But as I was making coffee at dawn, an SUV pulled up to my cabin. Grumbling with a mug in hand, I walked out onto the porch, barefoot and in just gray sweatpants.

"Good morning, Alpha,” Kurt greeted with a bright smile. "It's too early to be that chipper,” I grumbled, sipping my coffee.

Looking at Kurt was always painful for me. Not just because he's always so chipper, he’s also the bastard son of Siegfried, the self-proclaimed 'Alpha' of a pack of rogues, the same bastard that killed Suzu. The bastard knew he couldn't defeat me in a fight, so he killed my love.

Kurt looks a lot like him. But thankfully, he has his mother's disposition and ties to my pack. I’ll never question his loyalty to the pack and me. He's fought Siegfried and his rogues his share of times since his first shift.

"Hello, Alpha. We brought the equipment as Silvercloud instructed,” Mikali greeted, getting out and opening the trunk. Tanner and Scott exited after giving nods. I at least know neither of them are morning people.

"Thank you for getting here so quickly. There's some coffee still if you want some. I'm going to get dressed. Leave what I'm going to need to set up near the camp. I trust Silvercloud outlined that you are not to go near the camp. I smell any of you within a hundred feet of that camp. I’ll send condolences to your parents,” I warned, turning back inside.

I didn't wait for them to reply. By the time I came out dressed to work, the boys were gone. They knew better than to anger me. So, I took the box they left and put it in the back of the old camp truck heading to the camp. I had gotten a few cameras set up facing the tree line, with some visibility to the camp to know if anyone tried wandering off.

I hadn't expected to run into Aurelia while doing this. But as I was heading to the girls' bathroom, her scent hit me shortly before she did. I may be shorter than her, but I'm bulky and certainly outweigh her. I knew if I touched her, the mate bond would affect us both. I've never personally experienced it before but have been told about it.

Nothing dad or any mated pack member told me prepared me for the first time I touched her. The intense sparks that surged through me stemming from our joined hands nearly knocked me down. Jericho was going nuts in my head. 'Mate! Mate! Mate!' he cheered.

And getting to talk to her, I got a glimpse of her sense of humor. She can call me wolfman any time she wants. Of course, Darien had to show up and ruin it. I swear to the goddess I will murder this kid if he touches Aurelia again or calls me Jimmy. I couldn't help smiling when my mate threatened to castrate the little prick. She's got fire, and fuck, I like it. I watched her ass as she rushed off.

"Pervert. Stay away from her. If anyone's tapping that this summer, it'll be me,” Darien wagged a finger at me. I growled, clenching my jaw, fighting to keep Jericho back.

"Touch her and die. She made it clear she isn't interested in you. Now, don't you need to teach some brats how to canoe or make a keychain? Now get out of my sight,” I said, intentionally using my alpha tone when I told him to leave.

It was the tone that no wolf in my pack could go against. But used against a human, it can also intimidate. And based on the scared look in his eyes, it worked.

He grumbled something, telling me to fuck myself, as he left. I snorted and picked up my ladder and tools, returning to my task.

I ignored the campers and staff that looked at me while I worked. Most just seemed confused by what I was doing. Others, like that counselor May, didn't care what I was doing. They just liked looking at me. I know I'm an acquired taste for some.

Still, I also know animal magnetism and the confidence an Alpha exudes are enticing to women. But there's only one person I want looking at me with desire at this camp, and that's Aurelia.

As I'm setting up the last camera on Rowan's office, I smell him. Humans have an underlying scent that's different from werewolves and then have their unique aromas. Rowan smells like cheap beer and regret. I wrinkled my nose mentally, preparing for the inevitable of him approaching me.

"James!? What are you doing? I've been getting reports you've set up cameras all over the camp, even at the bathrooms. Are you some kind of pervert? I should call the police on you and fire your ass!" he shouted at me.

I casually climbed down the ladder reminding myself I couldn't just kill him. "First, the only pervert on staff is your son. I see him make a pass at one of the campers again, especially after the camper has told him no, I’d be the one calling the cops. Second, I'm following orders,” I shrugged, leaning against the building.

"Don't threaten my son,” he glared, poking me in the chest. I held in a growl. I don't like being touched. "And I didn't tell you to install a security system, let alone one that doesn't connect to my office computer,” Rowan continued poking me.

So that's it. Rowan doesn't want someone else to see what goes on at this camp. I knew my gut was right. This human is slime. "Orders came from above you. Mister Kinsley, you know the owner of this camp, heard about the poachers. I woke up to a delivery of this security system and instructions to install it along the camp’s perimeter. I don't know about you, but I don't plan to ignore orders from Mister Kinsley,” I shrugged. It was mostly true. I did wake up to the delivery of the equipment. Plus, I am Mister Kinsley, and I want this system in place.

The mention of myself had Rowan taking two steps back. "Kinsley? But I…" he cut himself off. I raised an eyebrow folding my arms across my chest. "You never told the authorities, let alone Kinsley, about the poachers. I figured. But Kinsley knew anyways,” I shrugged.

I dug into my pocket, taking out a note I wrote just in case this happened. "Here if you don't believe me,” I said, offering the letter. Rowan snatched it from my hands, glaring at the paper.

"It has come to my attention that poachers have been killing on my land. I will not tolerate this. These poachers pose a danger to the protected wildlife on my land and the campers and staff. I have sent a security system that you will install immediately. I will know if this isn't completed. Failure to comply will result in a personal visit from me. Regards, L.J. Kinsley,” Rowan muttered the letter aloud.

I smirked at the range of emotions that fluttered across his face. I especially liked how his heart rate spiked when he got to the threat of me coming personally. If he only knew, I’d been here all along.

"Seems like it's all in order. Get back to work. I've never personally met Mister Kinsley, but the way Mister Westbrook implied he's not a man to cross,” he said, shoving the letter back at me. "I'm just finishing up. Trust me, and I don't want to see this Kinsley guy angry,” I smirked, grabbing my things.
